When I grow up I want to be an astronaut
a footballer, a fireman
a racing car driver,
then the weekends a pilot.
When I grow up I want to travel the world,
screw around
bungee jump with my mates
drink myself stupid.
When I grow up I want to earn good money
make time to help others
get a steady girlfriend
maybe buy a place.
When I grow up I want to love someone for the right reasons
get married
be a kid with my kids
give them more than I gave myself.
When I grow up I want to answer questions
express the inexpressible
touch the void
feel closer to the outside.
When I am late in life I want to look back
be proud
respect the reasons why I couldn't
and love the child that still remains.

Beautiful. I love how it evolves as the narrator grows up

Loving this hoalarg.. clean innocent verse that hooks you in then goes deep showing maturity, reconciliation, and the willingness to retain the child-like, so linking back into the first verse.. Well done.

Thanks MD. There is a lot to be said for simplicity.
