Valencia Street

Valencia is a self-operating gypsy folk band - the members come and go, but the instruments keep on playing! Valencia is a mystic who takes acid and drifts into the forest never to be seen again; a mascara’d contortionist defying her body in burlesque bars; a restless Mexican boy running off with a circus to swallow swords; a shy growing teen kicked out of home for coming out, soon to make friends and love hitching freight trains across America; a stacked but brittle man who joins a gang, loses his mind and takes his own life; an abandoned half-opened book whose pages flutter into illiterate hands; a giant paint pallet flung like a frisby, spitting colours in every direction; an old trolley spilling cans by day; it’s owner, spilling toxic amber by night; a crack pipe dream who knows no waking life; a steaming burrito wrapped in yesterday's news; the inside of a child’s mind drawn four-stories high on a school wall; a warm surfboard hiding behind the misty wave of San Francisco; a place where stories continue, but never begin.

You know, this reads like a prologue for something interesting and mad. I like it as a stand-alone piece of quality writing, but I wish I could read the illusory book whose prologue my (overactive) imagination believes this is.

Thanks Ewan. Funnily enough, this was an excersize to get some ideas going for a more substantial piece. I'm writing it now and will post when it's done.
