Cherry Bomb (10th June 2008, 8.25am)
There are too many people
Standing on my toes;
I can’t see the President
To tell him what I know;
Here we are in thousands,
Hanging on his words;
He fends off all the questions
That he hasn’t really heard;
One man to lead the people;
The people put him there
From the limited selection
At the national freak fayre;
I turn to look at Michael
Gazing through the heads;
We could reach the President
If the crowd all fell down dead,
So let’s build a cherry bomb,
Call out ‘there she blows’
As we scatter the innocents
Like a circus acrobatic show;
We could walk across the bodies;
We could take him by both hands;
We could ask him all those questions;
We could make him understand;
Let’s build another cherry bomb;
Always best to have a spare
Just in case the Man won’t listen,
Then at least we’ll be prepared;
There are too many people

I like the rhythmic structure of this. If it were a song, then I see the chorus being:
We could walk across the bodies;
We could take him by both hands;
We could ask him all those questions;
We could make him understand;

Actually, I think it is a song, but I can't write music, so I suppose it is destined to remain as a poem!

Yes, it is a song by the all girl band The Runaways from the late 70s, I think.
As it happens, I am a musician/composer. Perhaps I could put music to this and send it to you.

I'm sorry?! I wrote this yesterday! Who are The Runaways and why are you giving them credit - I wasn't even born back then!
But I would love it if you wrote music for my words, how amazing would that be?!

I'm such a music geek... 'Cherry Bomb' was a hit song for the band. They were kinda cool but didn't last. One of the members, Joan Jett, went on to have a successful solo career.
Anyway, enough of my geekness. I can and do write music and I have my own little recording studio as well. I would love to write music for some of your work. I'll get back to you on this soon.
