Cracks and Leaps

from the ABC set Something for the Weekend (May 2008)

Cracks and Leaps (5th June, 2008, 9.18am)

The fire cracks and leaps,
joking around, aiming to please;
throw another log on,
watch her spit,
cough, and then consume
the very core of it
as on your lap I flirt,
ever the feeble tease,
never the follow-through girl;
this is all I need;
just a pair of arms
and a conversation,
safe in the knowledge that
you’re mine if I want you.

I am the fire that cracks and leaps,
joking around, aiming to please;
throw another glass in,
watch me smile,
laugh, and then confuse
the very core of you
as on your lap you hold me,
ever the flirty girl,
never the one you take home;
sex not what I seek,
just a pair of arms
and no obligation,
clear in the knowledge that
you’re not the man for me.

"just a pair of arms
and no obligation"

Ah, yes, you've captured something there. I like the way the two stanzas reflect against each other.
