The Pen Is

The Pen Is (9th June 2008, 12.12pm)

The pen is
able to carve meaning
out of these simple things:
words.

Without them,
communication
is harder.

They say that
only ten per cent
is oral;
the rest is body language.

Just like sex,
for some people.

Here,
Sitting, typing, staring at
a screen full of them,
I disagree;
I read;
I write;
I carve out shapes;
I draw;
I paint.

The pen is the channel
for soul and heart;
my hands,
spread-eagled as they are
across the keys,
playing unpractised melodies,
miss
it.
