Penetrates (23rd October 2008, 10.07pm)

Eyes demand answers, yet
I have nothing to say;
Wind sweeps words before me
that I chase, disjointed, crazed;
like leaves on the river,
the words get washed away.

Tears hide sadness;
your price: I paid.

Rain makes tears on Face
and your stare penetrates;
a hungry, spiteful gaze;
your countenance a demand,
red and veined; I quake
in the shadow of Mistake.

Take my boots off:
I have no grace.

Teeth chatter as Eyes ice over;
my harshest critic is my winter,
coming to end my summer;
you are my intended enemy,
when once we called it ‘Friends’
we made love, but love ends.

I have not the words
to make amends.

Hands hold apologies, when once
they held Flesh. My Bones are
light without you; my Body feels
bereft. And still Eyes penetrate;
wallpaper strippers, taking off
my surfaces, what has truth cost?

Your love, priceless.
Is it me you’ve lost?

This line cuts strait to the point! And this makes the whole poem work very well.
