Sunday Walks After Mass
By Paul McCann
Daddy took us for Sunday walks
And we never got lost .
We always went first to early mass
Up at Holy Cross.
We’d welk to the Grove baths
or on secret paths to Green Gate.
Sometimes when Mammy would come
all of us thought it great.
Looking down from Cave hill ,
picking blackberries up Napoleons nose .
Running wild in the long grass
and as free as the wind blows .
There were wasps there doing a
high head humming blackberry fling .
and there was no getting away ,
from the threat of a sting .
We screamed to the coast ,
Come Holy Ghost take away this buzzing beast .
That's all was said , sot the wasp dropped dead ,
and to say the least ,
We knew the power of prayer there
For it worked for us that day .
When we came home we made jam
and we couldn’t stop talking .
Sunday’s were always getaway days
when we went walking
..
