Cupid’s fickle arrows
Fell like black rain
And swallowed me with swarms
Of coal waves, blocking
Out the sun, heart-shaped
In a sapphire sky.
The last leaf shivered
Like a flame, bloodied by
Autumn’s wrath, waiting
To free fall into forever.
Everything past in such tranquillity;
A dream within a dream.
And you were the north,
All things pointed to you.
All my heart had to do was follow
The signs. As I knew it would
Because each of your
Footprints became hallowed ground.
