Pear-Shaped

from the ABC set Dear Romeo - The Love Poems

My body is wrong.
Every crease, every curve
Is a contradiction,
Like a figure eight
Seen in a warped mirror.
I am like the Venus de Milo
But with arms.
My torso is a tear,
A rounded bottom
With a pointed tip.
But you say that you
Are no Vitruvian Man
And besides,
Pears have always been
Your favourite fruit.

I just adore this.

"I am like the Venus de Milo
But with Arms."

Classic.

Goes to show, none of us is perfect, but then perfection can be boring and beauty, as we all know, is in the eye of the beholder. Well ain't it just?

Conference pears, are certainly my other half's favourite. Myself, I rather have a penchant for William's;-)

A rather unique, clever and beautiful way to capture true love. Very simple- just shows love isn't really as difficult as some people assume. ;-)

Well done.

Nathan.

Thanks guys :) This poem is the conterpart to my poem 'Perfection'. This is a theme I love visiting in poetry because I am and always have been very self-conscious about my body, but my boyfriend, bless him is always reminding me that he loves me just the way I am ;)

My experience of love is two people hurting each other through expectation.

But this is perfect. I shall love my pearness!

Thanks for the feedback Jennifer! You should love your curves ;)

Ah a cherry pick on my birthday that also happens to be National Poetry Day! A very nice birthday present :)

I thoroughly enjoyed this poem. My favourite lines have already been selected by Silver Spun Sand and they are: "I am like the Venus de Milo
But with Arms." Altogether a nice, sweet contribution.
