Calling-Song

Nursing sick ballads
Like Tesla nursed pigeons
The centuries give battle in vain like Richard of York
Even damnatio memoriae cannot undo the instant
Rearranging the rainbow
Ancient voice
Brand new tune
Tapped into the well of compassion under the city
A rushing river in emerald light
The aging tree is grateful
And passers-by are dubious
Chanting
"I am flooded with compassion
I am a teardrop of compassion
I am the dancer of compassion
I am the doorway to compassion"
Voice of the river under the streets
Killed,
In meditation under the base of the tree
Cross-legged and taught, in agony, at peace
Crowned in antlers and painted with the smudges of the rain
The singer saw the guardian of balance
Allfather
Aroused as if in outrage at the thought of winter
And of forgetfulness
He was a voice, soundless, in the stars
And the dark silhouettes of pine tops
Under a night which was blue, not black
And in the northern star, foundation of the firmament
Which is but a hole where the huntress' arrow has pierced his noble heart
And the archer kissed his bloodied and gasping lips
Goodbye, my love, and travel safe to the lower world
"I am the chase
I am that which is sought
My heart is the hearth to which the arrow returns
Home to a hero's hail
I am the direction,
The aim of the songstress
I am the point by which the soul navigates
Follow me with your eyes and inner compass"
And the back of the moonchaser was clothed in curves of light
Paler than pine, more potent than peridot
And the seeker's song rang out over the bubbles and threads of the universe
And deep into the marrow of the Earth
And the Prince of the Forest strode unseen through the city
And painted the northern lights across those wide-splayed wings
In gold, pink, azure and polar jade
To hold the colours in the world until he returns at the springrite
In his garland of flowers
Duty to the ancestors of all
To have known sorrows and summers
And winters and weddings
A blessing and a curse
Is to slip into a trance at the slightest nudge
