The Revolt

from the ABC set Three Kinds of Heart Poems

Each goes alone to his lonesome home
And commits the tiny murders that make up every day
Again and again, is there no other way than this?
This handful, these are all that care?!
All humankind is bully or victim
Mother Earth screams her grief to the storm
While empty eyes turn away from the cops beating the youth
While you party like it's 1984
But take my hand, and don't you let go
I will show you hope is still alive

The day the last free child salutes
The day the last bleeding heart heals
The day the last vegetarian starves
The day the last kindness is done
Then, only then will all hope be lost
And damn it, my heart will always bleed

I am a candle, put me near wood
Lead me to where I'll do the most good
We are Inferno
Now don't you give up your spark

Well if two hold hands that's empathy
And if three hold hands then the sidewalk's closed
Come on, stand up, don't give up hope
Enough hands linked could span the globe

If we do all we can
And get as many to do that as we can
And they do it as much as they can
Then just maybe we can
And I just know we can, we will

And all human history is bully and victim
But it doesn't have to be this way
We can revolt, we can rebuild

Stand up, we're only as fast as our slowest member
Reach out, we move ahead more if we carry the weak
Wake up the dormant masses from their deadly slumber
Move out- I promise to carry the wounded

Now if two hold hands that's compassion
And if three hold hands then the sidewalk's closed
Love lives, stand up- don't give up hope
I bet we can convince the world

I can see in your recent poem that you have moved forward since this one but you have a good grip on your vocabulary and your subject.

Well done...keep writing
