from the ABC set POETRY - A Passage of Motion 2

The oil pipeline is a tear
upon the land, winding

beside roadside
ravines, pastures and swamp
around sloughs, across
hills. Once upon a
wide open sky, wagon trains

created their own footprints
of civilization.
