SEPTEMBER SNOW poem

September Snow

Early sweep of sunset trails, as wings
withdraw from windy heights
heavy eyes in need of rest
from journey’s flight –

they swoop in from horizon’s dim
silhouettes moving in organized retreat
hurrying with a rush across the fields
swallowing up nature’s delight

these geese, distant from Hudson’s shore
vagabonds in flight searching for a home, any
place to hide their souls,
somewhere over there a sanctuary awaits.

Hush…the sky breathes calm, serene
in its evening smile, as
honking quietly gathers within.

Hello Julie, I am so thankful, if anything goes wrong with my computer, then my wife, Esther, fixes it. Cheers. Richard LP

I love these lines. The poem is a wonderful way to capture 'September', which isn't easy. September had always been one of my favourite months, because it is so hard to write about. It seems stupid, since there are so many different things happening every September, but for some reason, this particular month passes by in silence and yet, it shouts out loud more than any other month I think.

I really enjoyed this poem. Well done.

Nathan.

Hi Nathan, the lad with such insights. Thank you for them. Think of September as a pane of glass, like a salient waiting for attention. You can see through it as if it does not exist, but cannot do without the creature. September is a song, harmony stroking the muse, it tingles with anticipation, and heralds in the movement of Autumn to Winter dress. When I worked in James and Hudson Bay in 1967 I saw many thousands of geese, mostly white ones, called "wavies." At that time, James Bay was the goose capital of the world. And I am particularly fond of the movements of geese as they swoop in, or ascend with a clumsy rush. Best, Richard LP
