I met her in the breath of life
mindset at rest, in spite of that train
accident years ago
now her good arm wrestles with
the rim’s turn,
radiant smile
gathering my attention --
we met at the corner of patience, her
love of life
determined to grasp what was left
I saw a strength in her soul
that helped me to grow
and see beyond my full body armour.

Thanks much, jolono. My wife and I first met Sandra years ago and she continues to smile, encourage others and is a fixture on our streets, whizzing around in her wheel chair. At the age of 14, she lost her right arm and left leg, right at the main joint, when she tried to slide under a supposedly slow moving freight train. I feel my poem honours her. All the best, Rich
