Pink and White

It is dark by now,
Curtains closed,
Bunk set in the middle of the room.
Wallpaper is pink and white vertical stripes.
I lay on the bottom bunk
and can hear the frantic scrubbing of teeth,
Door creeps slowly open,
She is trying not to wake me,
So I close my eyes.
I feel the bed shake slightly as she clambers up the ladder next to my feet.
A small night light illuminates the pink and white,
And my eyes are too tired to see anything else.
'Psst'...'Hey!' I whisper
'I thought you were asleep?' she whispers back,
'I am!'
An obvious lie,
It makes us giggle.
Then there is silence,
But it does not seem long until we are woken,
You are home,
It is still dark,
Door creeps open,
Our necks grow tense.
I concentrate on the night light,
The pink and white stripes.
