ROOMS BY THE SEA
(after Rooms by the Sea painted by Edward Hopper in 1951)

So after all it was you
Edward Hopper
who took me to the sun
and coloured me a room
in a palette of yellow and blues.
You laid me on a soft sofa-bed
covered in orangey-red
so I could rest in the late afternoon
watching you paint muted
shadows on the walls
whilst the sea-scented sea
lapped gently outside the open door.
Your parting gift
was a picture painted just for me
You hung it above the sofa
and called it Rooms by the Sea.
A room within a room
A painting within a painting
A dream within a dream.
You took me to the sun Edward Hopper,
I should have known it would be you

Hi seashore.
I really liked this.
Lucky to live overlooking the sea and would you believe it.
I collect Edward Hopper ( prints of course )
I see the colours you describe everyday, the smells, the sun.
Lovely
Regards

Hi Scozen
If you are new, welcome. I'm quite new too.
I'm so glad you liked this one and thank you for taking the time to say so.

I wonder whereabouts you live and how I envy you overlooking the sea. I also lived overlooking the sea for 5 years in Devon and have missed it ever since but not so much sun there!

Interesting you that you collect Edward Hopper.

Thanks again for commenting and regards to you too.

Loved this Coral. Knowing that you liked art I asked you whether you liked the work of Edward Hopper (Night Hawks) when you commented on my piece 'Dungeness in Winter - Oil on Canvas, but you didn't respond. Now I know that you do.

Hi Trev - so sorry I didn't respond, thought I mentioned it but obviously not. I did Google the Dungeness painting to remind me after reading your poem though and yes, I do.

Despite all the years of studying at Art College and constant re-discovery of artists whose names are more familiar than their work, I came to Hopper relatively late and wondered why I hadn't noticed his genius before. I have books on most of my faves and now have a Hopper in my collection. A print would be nice, but short of space.

Not sure how to put into words how his work makes me feel - moody perhaps?

Thanks for reading this. Coral x
