Man with the Sapphire Eyes

from the ABC set Silver Spun Sand Poems

A branch, tapping
on the window, wakes me.
I watch him half-smile
in his sleep, as if cradling
the child he once was
in his arms;

strands of hair,
soft and weeping,
silently stutter
with the flutter
of his eyelids...lost
in some half-dream,
half-awake reverie.

Shards of sunlight –
pierce the blinds;
outside, blades of grass,
hang heavy – teardrops
at their tips. His skin, moist
and cool to the touch
hints of sandalwood
and ivory musk.

Visions of him
still vivid in my mind,
as an artist dreams
of a palette filled
with undiscovered colours,
and so shall I dream
until he becomes
my final adumbration
when the sky shifts –

and Love-in the-Mist
sparkles with the opal pearls
of morning, sweet and golden
as a buttermilk pancake kiss...
as I surrender to him
as a wind-flower in all
its sapphire glory, bends
to a passing breeze.

What beautiful sentiments in this poem Tina.

Congratulations on your 45th wedding anniversary.
Gosh what a mile stone.

Best wishes for the future and I hope you enjoy the day...whatever you do.

I think your husband will adore this poem.

Jenny.

Thanks, Jenny. A milestone it surely is. I just can't believe it. Funny isn't it, that the older one gets the faster time flies. We're off out for a meal with our daughter and grandkids...now 18 and and 17, and the eldest, Ashley is off to Honduras, in a week or so's time, for a whole year with a charitable organisation called Project Trust, so it will be rather a bitter-sweet occasion.

Much appreciate your words and thanks again.

Thank you, hilary. I don't know where the last 45 years have gone. The world was such a different place in 1967 and much has changed, including hubby and me. I guess the thing is, is to bend with the wind, if you know what I mean;-)

We're just off outside into the garden for our meal. It is a beautiful evening here, and all we could both wish for.
