I’m in the bathroom –
hoping like hell
my mahogany rinse
works this time.
The ‘greys’ are taking over.
I’m in my bathroom,
towel round my head
and singing my heart out.
A brush – my microphone.
I’m fifty-nine for goodness sakes!
What the hell am I doing?
If he could see me now –
that ‘sometime man of mine’.
If I only I could
wash him out my hair.
Always fancied myself
as another Mitzi Gaynor.
‘South Pacific’.
Now that’s what
I really call a film.
Showing my age, I guess,
but who cares?
Love the skin you’re in.
Isn’t that what they say?
Look out, Amy Whitehouse,
or whoever, here I come.
Wait for it, Jess –
key change on the way.
If I was up on stage, this
would bring the house down.
Still – I’m thankful
for small mercies.
I’ve an audience
of one … just because
it’s time for tea.
Ain’t it, cat?
But who gives a shit?
This one’s for me!

A brilliant fun-loving poem Tina - I love it :) Just one question is the 'know' supposed to be 'now' in this line; 'If he could see me know'.

You're darned right, Magic:-) I called myself the 'typo-queen' the other day, and I'm sure living up to it! I have suitably corrected and thank you, not only for that, but for reading my little bit of fun, as well.
Have a great weekend and thanks once again.

Did it work? The rinse?
You left me handing. Were you singing 'Back to Brown'?!
Nathan Bednarek | November 9, 2008 - 21:52
'That sometime man of mine.'
Now that's a powerful line. I like that about a woman that she isn't afraid of expressing some feelings towards a man or men- it puts them in their place, if you know what I mean ;-p
I really like this piece, a very captivating and interesting read.
Well done.
Nathan.

Ha, ha! Yes - the rinse DID work, but it turned more a shade of red than brown!! 'Lady in Red' was more appropriate, under the circumstances.
Thanks for reading, Jennifer:-)
