Please god, say it isn’t so,
or at very best...help me
to forget, but gradually,
for love is precious,
love is rare; let it melt
into air as deliquescent
chords of a cello.
Help me forget, but tenderly –
bid farewell to what we had
and with its ending
create a new beginning...
softly, as is offered up
a prayer to some or other god
we try to believe in.
Forget the jasmine,
he pinned in my hair
one balmy summer’s night
when someone, somewhere,
played violin; a melody
drifting by on the wings
of a zephyr; forget,
but preciously;
the life we shared –
for the sheer hell of it...
Let memories fade
of the mountains
I climbed with him
and fern fronds
we watched unfurling –
the bread we baked,
together – butterfly shadows
we made on a wall
as the dawn came up, soft
as distant thunder.
Please say it isn’t so,
or at the very best,
help me to forget,
but slowly ; not because
my heart has grown cold,
but because he gave me
all he owned – the span
of his one,
allotted moment.

Hi! Tina, what another gem of a poem
And love and emotion. Stanza I like.
Forget the jasmine,
he pinned in my hair.
one balmy summer's night
when someone,somewhere,
played a violin; a melody
drifting by on the wing
of a Zephyr; forget,
but preciously;
the life we shared-
for the sheer hell of it ...
So much emotion in,greatly done.
And true I imagine.

Hi Tina,
could this be a memory of a lost love? it certainly
read like that to me. It sounds like precious memories to me.
I always get a little afraid of guessing what your
poems are about, incase I get it wrong, but it's
just the way I read them. I think you're one of my
favourite writers on here, you seem to write with
such passion and soul.
Thankyou for another beautiful read.
Jenny.

Gosh, you are on the ball this afternoon, Julie. Must be all that sea air you breathed in on Tuesday;-)
So glad you liked this one and you picked my favourite lines too;-)
Have a nice evening.

Jenny - you are amazing...always reading between the lines, and more than that, I shall not say;-)
Seriously though, never be afraid to 'guess' what a poem is about, especially mine; in my book a poem, once it's out there in the ether for folk to read, means only what each individual reader feels it means. Nothing more, nothing less.
Glad you liked this one. It does hold very special memories.

I like this also - now I'm intrigued by the `history' you referred to.......

I love intrigue...don't you Coral?;-) Gonna have to keep you guessing on that score, for now at least;-)
Mind you, sometimes what we conjure up in our imaginations, can often be way more interesting than the truth...not always, mind;-)
Seriously though, many thanks for reading, and for taking the trouble to comment. More than appreciated.

Absolutely beautiful, Tina. Too many breath-taking images to quote. And I love that refrain you've got going on in the piece - I think you used a similar one in a much older piece called "Letting Go"? Anyway, love it!
