Crumbling Hope

No likes yet ♦

There’s an undeniable sadness
to life

you can see it

at the right moment
in the right light
sometimes
just
with the right music

It comes down upon your head
like a ton of motherly doubt

a eureka moment made of dirt
and dull pain

you can see it

people look ordinary
everyone isn’t at their best
running round
doing chores
clad in average cloth

you can see it
standing outside cake shops
shrugging massive shoulders

you can see it
putting things off
- needless things
just ideas and ambition

you can see it
clogging the air
and trudging home

you can see it in the faces of alcohol
you can see it when it helps
you can see it when others are unsure
about this phenomenon

you can see it in the eye of a rose
not always smiling
but also somehow
despondent

you can see it
when the present already feels like the past
when the people you know today
have already left
tomorrow

I can hear myself saying “...remember when...”
and I can see it

in many ways
it feels as though this
is all there ever could have ever been

alternate scenarios
are mere figments

there’s no way round it

so see it
