She stayed awake until
five
in the morning
paranoid about albino girls
ghosts
and too much garlic
I was oblivious
and
in the morning she cried
stress tears
bursting to scream out of her
skin
she hit me
on the back on the
arms on the
legs
I laughed
and held her frustration
harnessed her
humility
we reconciled
We were young then
we saw the shades
of colours ‘neath the screen
of sun
and it didn't matter
none of it did
because
we had each other
