Milk Round
By the unfolding head

Literally shaking with excitement
at 3am breakfast
struggling
to get anything down
past
the furry wings fluttering
below my lungs
Today I can go with him
His reassuring wink
sleepily encouraging
as we head out
in the old
noisy
float
Just a few souls
out at this hour
acknowledging nods shared
between
overall clad men
Maybe an animal
or two
a hedgehog, badger
or fox
But more importantly
the empty glass soldiers
and
their sour smell aroma
filling my nostrils
with the memories of time spent
- and bond
with my old man
