Misery in Marrakesh
By the unfolding head

Another contort of the bowel
twisting insides
churning spices
flesh tagine
cooking up a sewer rat special
We pray for solid stools,
no more flies chewing on our bread,
no more cockroaches crawling in our bed,
no more Marrakesh misery
pulsating endlessly
through my tired, tired head
Two days after I’d left
everyone
the whole cafe
explosion obliterating
a perspective shockwave
the chair I had rested in
and much much more
gone

Head, I rarely comment here,
Head, I rarely comment here, but this was familiar to me. I lived in Marrakesh for a while, many years ago, when it was still fun. Sadly, yes, the dysentery was a part of it, but so was the colour, the vibrancy, the life.
I was completely shocked when it was bombed. I, too, had sat in that cafe many times, smoking, and drinking mint tea. Sad times we live in.
