Sitting here on this curb
a small glut blockage of noodles
resting
on my worn looking
belt buckle

I can clearly see the monster
on the other side of the road

a shopping centre squats it’s arse
on the grass

much bigger
than any school or hospital
I’ve ever seen
it must be about ten football pitches long

It pisses me off

the shopping mall
and the fact I find it hard to measure anything
properly

I can’t eye a thing up
and give you estimates
in established quantities
feet, yards and metres never really did it for me
never made
their acquaintance

So instead I’ll give you comparatives

let’s say
- including car park

I’ve heard
the monster
is one of the biggest
distractions
in Europe
it does not promote self awareness
soul searching exploration
or introspective wanderings
no

it only serves and prescribes
demand

but to its credit
it does have glittery bikinis

sitting here on this curb
the monster’s enormous blank face
becomes less scary
even though it blocks out
any hope
of horizon

as each member of the public arrives
or leaves
I suck on exhaust fumes
my head
wheel height

the windows
look dead

no seasons pass through this skin
the only way you can tell
it’s almost autumn
is by slipping yourself inside
and eyeing up a manikin
