Think of a shape. Any shape at all.
Now. I want you to visualize that shape and also think of the name of that shape in your mind. Can you do that please?
Now. Think only of the name of the shape. See the name of the shape in your head.
Now see all the letters of that name disappear until you are only left with the last letter.
Now think of only that letter. Are you thinking of that letter?
Now try to think of a number, between one and ten, beginning with that letter and think of the name of that number. Remember, it has to be between one and ten. Try to visualize the name of that number in your mind.
Now, like you did before. Let all the letters of that name disappear except for, this time, the second letter.
Now think of that letter please and try to think of a metal that begins with that letter, try to think of the colour of it and the hardness of it and with my psychic powers I will try to…
Is the metal that you are thinking of Iron?

Sadly, this trick won't work if a person thinks of a crescent, star, heart, diamond or parallelogram.
It's not as effective as some simple mind reading tricks I've seen but most of them seem to involve
numbers, like the nine times table one and I wanted
to create a simple mind reading trick that relied on words and letters alone.
I also think that it would work better spoken aloud than read. Reading it makes it easier to work out, I think.

Wow! Well done, would you believe it!
Yes,it worked on name you said wouldn't Diamond.
But then I maybe a bit psychic? Came from my belated
pop! always right, and my Nan dabbled?

The metal I was thinking of was nickel. Work that one out!

Thanks,Julie for giving it a try but my instructions must be unclear.
"Yes,it worked on name you said wouldn't Diamond."
Diamond shouldn't work, Julie because it has the wrong letters but, like I said, my instructions perhaps weren't very clear
I've got no psychics in my family, I'm afraid, but my uncle was a magician and member of the magic circle.

"The metal I was thinking of was nickel. Work that one out!"
Based on how the trick is supposed to work, after you thought of a number you must have kept the first or third letter instead of the second letter.
But as I said in my reply to Julie, my instructions probably weren't clear enough.

Worked for me!! (circle) cleverly worked out.

Thanks, shoe.
I'm relieved to hear that. It's been one of my big ambitions, for years, to create a written mind reading trick and I feel like I've fulfilled that ambition now.

I was kidding, well-wisher. I thought of a triangle, so it all worked for me. Any shape with a name ending in 'e' is fine, so circle, triangle, square and rectangle will all work.

Hi! sorry didn't get all the number bit?
Thought of word Diamond take end letter,
forget the word, count one to ten,not sure!
Think of second letter. I arrived at I saw,
mention word Iron. Had someone knew in magic circle,
as a boy, very close to me!
I can do choose a card, think half the pack, quickly look at top number, person puts back the card in the pack! then shuffle cards and display them till come,
to the card,of your own,persons must be next next card. Strangely enough,in paper today,some going around doing this kind of thing,saying win and gave money,they never win! Or find what is under the cup!etc;

I once had a book of card tricks and remember one where the 'magician' does the trick over the phone to a stranger. It worked but I can't remember how and I've lost the book! A new story has just flashed through my mind! WOW, I've discovered a thought in my head! Run out of exclamation marks now.
