Who's the boss

I was having an interesting conversation today with a lady from China. We were discussing politics and gasoline prices and things of that nature. She made a comment to me, which I found amusing and thought perhaps worth tossing about with other nationalities.

Her point in a nutshell, with the cold war over, the United States is considered the world super power and more or less the "boss" or "world police" country amongst the rest of the worlds countries. In her opinion (and those of many of her Chinese friends) if one country was destined to be the boss country, which country would be better than the United States?

If you had to choose one country to be the Super Power, which one would you choose. My Chinese friend and her friends think the US is the least of all evils in this regard.

i find it frightening that any country has the power to control the whole of civilisation en mass, what happened to the power of the individual and the democratic system, has terrorism washed all that away too. sandy
This should have been in the general discussion forum, sorry folks...the question still stands though. It's not a bug...it's a feature.

It's not a bug...it's a feature.

I blame this on Communism.

Tyler King

Oh Tyler - you are such a product of your system. Communism has nothing to do with it. Very few Americans even understand what Communism is, let alone what it has achieved and failed to achieve. In any case if we had to have one country rule over all then I think the USA would probably be at the bottom of my list - as so aptly demonstrated by Tyler. The educational system is one of the most efficient pieces of brainwashing ever devised, the ignorance of the rest of the world is staggering and the 'young country' mentality is always dangerously aggressive. I think we need an old culture to rule over us all. One that has been through its 'ennui' phase and is now into laid back wisdom. Bhutan? Spain?
Tony Danza!

rswatt, Tony Danza makes sense to me...this lady I was talking with is always watching that show, she probably came up with it there...A Chinese woman hooked on Tony Danza! Jeezzzzuuuus... Tony Cook...I agree with everything but your comment "Very few Americans even understand what Communism is, let alone what it has achieved and failed to achieve." I would disagree with that in detail. You're guilty of the same thing you're accusing young Tyler of me thinks....There are a very large number of former communist from europe, cuba and elsewhere living in and thriving ini the US. It's not a bug...it's a feature.

It's not a bug...it's a feature.

My father-in-law is Hungarian and fled his country in 1956 largely because Russia wanted to rule his country and everyone else's. He revisited several times whilst it was still Communist, along with my wife as a little girl. Nobody had a great deal but Budapest was clean, safe and orderly with good medical facilities, education and transport. It's more prosperous now, but is hardly clean, safe and orderly any more. And, yes, I'm sure "former communists from Europe and Cuba are ... thriving in the USA". Maybe because they're the new Mafia?
Neil, Do you ever turn the television off? It's not a bug...it's a feature.
