The Short Story

http://www.theshortstory.org.uk

The website above has been set up in general to provide information / support and to promote the short story. It's an off shoot of last year's 'Save Our Short Story' campaign.

On the site you can read short stories, find info about different collections and there's also a competition, the top prize being £15,000. Not bad. The winner gets read out along with a number of runners up on Radio 4.

So enter.

It would be nice to see someone from ABCTales doing the business.

Hm, maybe not so good. I've just downloaded the terms and conditions and the competition is only open to authors with a prior record of publication. It means you have to have been published by a UK publisher, or established UK print magazine, or broadcast on a national UK radio station. Online publishing doesn't count. So not open to everyone. However, on the website there are links to loads of other short story competitions. And there are plenty that are open to everyone.

brilliant drew thanks ... it makes a change from all those ones which exclude anyone who has been published ... it's a fantastic amount of money ... and looks like an interesting site too ...
Yeah, go for it, fish. I don't know which story to enter. I was thinking of you actually. I saw this, http://www.roalddahlmuseum.org/whatson/writerinresidence.aspx , writing in residence for Roald Dahl museum. You could apply for that. Although I don't know if it's practical, being in Buckinhamshire.
