Chinese Food and Wine by dreamgoddess

This is one of the most extraordinary stories ever posted on this site - and that's saying something! It's written in a strange patois that at first appears clumsy and misjudged - but you soon roll into the rhythmn and it captivates you:

http://www.abctales.com/dreamgoddess/chinese_food_and_wine

Your thoughts?

She's written a load of extraordinary poetry too - I think I like this one best: http://www.abctales.com/dreamgoddess/sweet_dream but do read through the rest and find some wonderful phrases - truly magical.
Love that mixture of wild English-as-a-second-language erotica, complete with virginals, steak at home and that internationally renowned artist Author Clock Scott. Hope to see more of Della and Julius!
Ok... I know I'm quite new to this writing poetry lark, but I have been reading it for far more years than I care to remember, so, i was just wondering...am I missing something here? Or is it just a man thing?
Pesky...I think that it is quite obviously tickling Tony somewhere, (under his desk maybe?) Tsk...Men, dicks, brains!
Well I don't know what it is you're on Tony, but keep taking it mate cos it allows you to see literary merit in crap. This stuff is bloody rubbish, and someone has to say so. Anyone can write drivel about dicks and cock-sucking.

Well, I live in a virtual state of priapism, but it seems to have been cured by this. Must be something for the older man.
Whahey...well said Missi..so not all men think with their dicks.
Tony, you just HAVE to be kidding! I've seen better stuff on toilet walls.

Larry & Mick get their thick chocolate manhoods out and watch them melt in the sun? Anyone?
I still stand by it; otherwise ordinary porn suddenly has a life of its own when it's attempted by a Chinese girl writing for a western audience. How would you explain cliche to her? And why a chocolate manhood has GOT to be funny? It doesn't have to be the best piece of writing on the site to get a cherry, just quirky and enjoyable.
Chinese? is she? I thought she was african american. (well if that is her profile on the personal website)
Aw c'mon Missi, Pesk - have you guys had an irony bypass or something? The author's - ahem - 'unique' relationship with the English language makes the story very, very funny. I guess it's slightly cruel to poke fun at someone else's language skills (I know for a fact that my Chinese Mandarin ain't too hot - apparently I sound very, very camp when I speak it) but meh, I laughed.
I think that the err..'fun' was being poked at Tony rather than at dreamgoddess, (who does actually state that she is african american if you read her website!)
Sorry Tim, I didn't realise it was an excercise in irony and comedy. Now where DID I save that story about how I bludgeoned a guard dog to death with my dick and then shoved it in the owners ear?

'Now where DID I save that story about how I bludgeoned a guard dog to death with my dick and then shoved it in the owners ear?' I'd buy that for a dollar!
*hysterically laughing* Please stop...please, please, please my ribs can't take anymore.
“Let us go to the sofa!” he said in his soft voice, good heavens! is it one of those things that is run through an online translator into norwegian and then back again into english?
Phew more sanity.
i have long believed tony cook to be nuts ...
.
A lovely meter Rita made, with things she found or got in trade. An orange filled with choclate gears... quicky gone like sudden tears. Chocolate... eaten - I'm afraid - and orange turned to marmalade. Yet Rita need not harbour fears for she was feted by her peers. To celebrate a song was played - Lovely Rita meter maid. Clockwork orange - chocolate snack - licked and eaten, oral knack. Fruity stories you should tout, if writer implies a sexy pout. Garbage in, garbage out, gets a cherry if in doubt.
Oo-er, I thought this might cause a full, frank and free discussion! When I started to read this piece I almost quit after the first couple of pars and dismiss it as illiterate nonsense - but then I read on - and on. The 'erotic' nature of her writing has nothing to do with it. The 'erotica' is undoubtedly the weakest part of her stories and poems. What I love are the extraordinarily descriptive phrases, inspired by a seeming lack of understanding of the English language. I feel that we have here someone who writes as they hear, has very few spelling skills and sometimes comes up with images that are just mind-bogglingly brilliant - whether by accident or on purpose does not matter. Just go through her work and glory in the descriptive power. The stories are bland, the poetry overall is execrable - but there are moments in there that beat almost anything I've ever read on here. As for a perceived love of erotica from me re:cherries I can but deny it. Cherry-picking is inevitably subjective. At the moment most of it is being done by me. I like some strange stuff. I look for originality and raw power as well as fine writing. I look for improvement in authors I know well. I have good days and bad days. I am always open for suggestions for cherries on here as has been displayed time and time again.
Jasper/Nikaya. You are on very thin ice. Your abusive remarks are breaching our code of conduct. This is a last and final warning. It would be better if you looked elsewhere for your fun.
The point you miss you numb-nut is that no one here gives a shit about your opinions of ANYBODY'S writing, mainly because you aren't really intelligent enough to have a worthwhile opinion.. You are almost totally illiterate, you can't spell, you compose your sentences from a bloody dictionary and neither they, nor you, make any sense. You swoop on new authors here that know jack shit about your reputation here, and you try to kid them you're a nice person. You're NOT. I know that at least one highly intelligent contributor and ex-editor left this site because he couldn't stand your interminable crap. I have no doubt that eventually you will be blocked for the second time, and you will find a little rat-hole to sneak back in by. Scum like you need locking up.

George, for crying out loud, stop procrastinating and just come out and say what you mean.
Wonderfully well said.
'Me tink Dreamgoddess must be making mens very horned to get away with this tripe.' Please, Liana, some cultural sensitivity. It should be: 'Me tink Dreamgoddess be makin dem man come most horny fo get away wit dis tasty coconut, mon'.
I don't like to be too blunt, Tim.

Tony and N-the-A like the writing, some others don't. What’s the problem, Jasper? It’s not a conspiracy it’s a difference of opinion. That’s why it’s called the, ‘Discuss writing from ABC Tales’ forum, and if the quality of the English language used comes into the equation, it’s because it’s an English language site. They’re arguing about the writing. No one was insulting anyone personally until you chimed in and started doing exactly that. It's hard to believe your concern for the feelings of Dreamgoddess in this debate, when you've spent so much word count on this site throwing vile insults at anybody who dares to contradict you. Code of conduct? Are you quoting it because you agree with it or because you despise it? * Waits for tirade of abuse based on all the naughty and ‘big grown-up words’ Jasper can find in his thesaurus *

Inclined to agree with Jasper on this last point "Now if I don’t like a piece of writing, I simply say nothing rather than overtly degrade an author like most have done here." I didn't 'get' Dreamgoddess pieces at all. I didn't enjoy them, I know that much. If Tony did, so be it. It's not a personal attack on any of the rest of us, it's just that he feels he likes this particular piece. Fair enough - no big deal, surely? But to systematically rip apart the author in the manner done above by some is terrible - it's one thing not to like the work but some of the personal attacks, I feel, cross the line, as, I must point out, did Jasper's earlier comments about Tony. Why is being civil seemingly becoming such a struggle for people on here these days? And what happened to constructive criticism? Ben
"awful and has no redeeming qualities" Thanks, mate. Visit my blog: http://whatisthisstrangeplace.blogspot.com/
I only ever speak for myself and on this thread I can only say Tony posted the link and asked for 'your thoughts'. I gave 'em. I stand by what I have said. I have read everything available by this author and believe it's all rubbish. Sorry, but that's my thoughts. It maybe insensitive and blunt, maybe even rude, but I believe it to be the truth. Maybe there should be an opt-out check-box for people to tick so their stuff isn't discussed in public. To say nothing when one reads something they think is crap is cowardice and results in a false impression to others about the overall quality of the writing on the site. I accept that what is deemed 'crap' varies from person to person, but in this case there isn't much variation. ( the only thing I agree with jasper about is his personal view that his own stuff is crap. ) Perhaps it would have been better for Tony to ask a second opinion from another editor before he praised this stuff to the heavens. Having said that, he's entitled to his opinion the same as everyone else. Constructive criticism went out the window in the main when the moron turned this forum into his personal courtroom and started lecturing us on what is 'adorable'. He's flooding the forum with his interminable threads AGAIN! Time to call it the Jasper forum ?

WOW, I have been trying to read this for a couple of days but my PC kept crashing. I got a shock when I did read it. I’m a new writer, very very new, and fairly young at 23, I know that I hang on the edge of my chair every time I post something, hoping for feedback good or bad to point me in the right direction. I must say, I found this piece so hard to read, I nearly put it down, then I couldn’t decide if it was a foreign writer or an English writer being foreign! I’m still not sure, but I haven’t read any of her other work. I suspect that the 'Cherry' has prompted all this, which I can only assume means that everyone is so keen to be recognised! Trust me; most of you who have made comments don’t need cherries. Your work is great and I enjoy a lot of it more than the cherry picked stuff. It’s sad to see so much arguing, I hope the writer isn’t put off by it all, and equally I hope I'm never subjected to such strong words, GUIDANCE is always welcome, like most on here aren’t we all learning and growing every day!
Aww Emma, you are right, it sad to see so much arguing, but I think that given time you will see that mostly folks on here a nice bunch...there are exceptions however, as in the case of one of Tony's posts to you yesterday..(take note, I feel that this time he knows what he is talking about!) As for the cherry prompting 'all this' you're probably right...I think most people were so shocked by both it and Tony's comments that they possibly couldn't not comment, however, I for one know that none of my comments were meant to be a personal attack on Dreamgoddess, but were quite simply as I stated directed toward Tony. A x
I stick by my earlier comments - and the more of dreamgoddesses' stuff I read, the more I am convinced that she has very little handle on the written English language. What I like about it is that it throws up some extraordinary phrases, that I, for one, found intuitive and moving. Whether they were intentional or not is entirely another matter. Try these: He knew by looks in my eyes that I really don’t want to be a lonely and no matter how I pretend to be happy. I was standing out of his door with full of butterflies in my stomach The way he rubbing my shoulder so gentle, that I can steak cleans to him all rest of the night. When I lay my head on his shoulder, I felt so completely and so essence inside of me They go on for ever... and there are loads that are a lot better than these. What I like is the utterly original use of the English language. You may regard it as the illiterate ramblings of someone - I don't. I think someone is trying very hard to express their feelings in whatever way is accessible to them - and this is a brave and, at times, inspired effort. I think I may well rest my case there and leave this increasingly bitter argument.
Cheer up Liana! It's just one of those black days when things look much darker than they really are and everyone ends up at cross purposes - it will all get sorted soon. It's not that you're wrong after all... and it has been a very interesting thread :o)
Oh well, that should make you feel better Liana, you've had the fatherly pat on the head from slimey! You are right, if nothing else it points up the failure of the American education system to teach this person a minimal degree of literacy. I hate to think what she comes home from Wal Mart with if she writes her own shopping list. I'm quite sure that whoever she is, she's a nice person, but that doesn't mean she can write. It's also no reason for not speaking up.

You really are barmy Jasper. I do wish you would just go away and not return. Pesky - I have no beef with you on this - it's a simple difference of opinion. both sides have expressed their views. Neither is right or wrong. One either takes pleasure in the extraordinary expressions that come from dreamgoddess or one doesn't. I think we leave it there.
I think this thread has driven home that it's not neccessarily the best stuff that gets mentioned on 'Discuss Writing' but pieces that have caught someone's eye, been enjoyed, and offered up for others to sample. It's a pity that this thread degenerated into an arguement about what is (or isn't) worth cherry picking - because it should really have been a demonstration of the range of qualities that different people find enjoyable and entertaining. At least it has made me realise that I can say that I like something without worrying about whether or not it will be considered worthy by everyone else. I hope others will feel the same and that more people will post as a result.
Thanks for that perception, leftboy - I've been on several different websites with discussion groups and none of them would tolerate the abrasive personal comments shown here - I made a rather mild anti-American comment on a birdwatching site in what I thought was a funny "birdy" way and got told off and my post deleted. This management's getting stricter, but some of these folks won't go away, or do so and come back with another alias. I didn't think this piece had great literary merit, but I found it before it was cherried and enjoyed the surreal dialogue and hilarious cheesy erotica, and I'm afraid I just like that kind of thing.
It's that Harry Enfield geezer havin' a larf innit? Playing Stavros crossed with Hoo Phlung Dung from Chinatown.
