Stupid *@!%!!?*! Previews

I know it's sad but I'm still totally hooked on '24' . Having watched the 4th series on TV, Dave and I got the previous series on DVD. Now for those who haven't seen it, the whole point is that it's incredibly tense with lots of plot twists (most of which work, surprisingly enough). However, as each new episode loads on the DVD they precede it with a still of the most momentous moment yet to come. It completely gives the plot away and one of you has to look at it (ish) to make the selection. What morons!
Don't know if anybody knows of any similar examples. I just wanted a rant really.

I'm not sure what you can do, Lou? Maybe stick your fingers in your ears, close your eyes and hum the American National Anthem loudly (this is so mind-numbing as to blot almost anything out).

Fistly, Lou, it's NOT sad. 24 is possibly the greatest thing ever. I have never had the DVD problem because I watch them week to week (having to go to my friends house because i am sky-less...Damn you BBC!). However, I am reliably told by my friends that it is essential you do NOT look at the DVD itself and you DO NOT look at menu screens. What did you make of season 4? I thought it was good, but not up there with some of the previous stuff. Remember the thing that happened in series three...."I'm sorry we let you down, God forgive me." No beeps as the seconds tick away. Me in tears. He had no friends, Lou, that's the thing. The poor man had no friends. Ahem...anyway bring on Day 5. PS Here's something sad...I have the ringtone...you know how the phone rings in CTU? That's my mobile. Now THAT's sad.
Sorry Enzo, I missed all of that, I seemed to have my eyes closed and my fingers in my ears... ;)

I could hear you from London - I'll contact the superbowl people, that was a wonderful rendition of the American National Anthem, KJ...
Enzo - look, we haven't much time... It is fabulous isn't it. I'm totally smitten with Jack Bauer and his tattoos. And as for lump in throat moments - the Kim/Jack plane conversation in series two - no one spoke during the ads... We didn't watch 24 at all until series 4 came on tv - then we got so hooked we got all the others on DVD. So far we've watched one and two and have just started three. Thing is as we've seen 4 we pretty much know the outcome of 3 (for instance I knew he wasn't in a stinky mood in the opening episode cos. he'd missed breakfast). Anyway, it's still great watching. I thought One was possibly the most tense. Four, I think, started well but relied a little too much on the, 'Ha ha! you thought THAT was the real plan...' Liked Beruse's mum though. Talked like her for weeks. Little hacked off with how immaculate the female agents look the entire time - how early do they get up? (Except for Chloe, she's ok.) I do think it's quite stunning how they can keep the tension going over that many hours of drama. Palmer's a great character. And, Enzo, re the ringtone... thanks for the headsup.

I'm in love with the following: Michelle Sarah Nina I think they would like me too, if only they met me (don't tell my girlfriend) The thing that's great about 24 is I feel like a little kid when I watch it - I have the (often irresistable) urge to jump around the house shouting 'CTU Bauer! Where's the bomb??? WHERE'S THE BOMB?' - er...that's just a little insight into my existence, for you. To be fair though Lou - Jack, Tony, Curtis - they're hardly ugly now are they?Something for everyone! Palmer is my hero. Gritty integrity. Glad I didn't tell you what that quote of mine refers to in season 3...you've got a real treat in store. You'll know it when you see it. Get yourself back on this thread when you have - let me know what you think. Ben
Me and CSI: is like you and 24, 2lou.

I don't 'get' 24 but love the CSI and Law and Order series.

Enzo, The following took place between 8pm and 9pm. I was on edge and I knew why. Series Three was in the DVD player but I wasn’t going to watch the next episode. David was on a night out and I just couldn’t do that to him. I’d have to wait until tomorrow. Son of a … Until I started taking it out on the cat. ‘Just eat the goddamn food I’ve given you!’ The cat was startled but I think she knew. I threw some cold water over my face and contemplated the fact that my mother-in-law was due to call from Teneriffe in less than two hours. Maybe it’d be best for everybody if I just took a peek. Just a small one. I found the DVD remote and pressed Load. The second I heard the whirr, I began to feel calmer. Then someone started creeping down the stairs behind me. ‘Mummy?’ It was Beth in her nighty. 'Er, what is it Sweetheart?' ‘Where’s Daddy?’ ‘He’s at work right now. He’s had a bad week...’ ‘Oh, poor Daddy. I love Daddy, Mummy. Don’t you?’ Once she’d gone I stared at the remote control, then threw it over the back of the sofa. Son of a …

Ah, excellent story! Just started laughing at work and got some funny looks..."It's classified," I said. "CTU business." I can say what I like because I've handed in my notice. However on a serious note, I must say that no sin is greater than agreeing to watch 24 with someone and then trying to take a peek, even a small one. Ben PS I've looked up the time of the episode in series 3 I was talking about - where are you up to? I'm so jealous you have that to look forward to!
I think we're at about 5pm (Hope you're on a secure line because I'm going to give plot away now...) Michelle is in charge, Tony is in surgery and Jack is in the process of busting Salazar out. David might be going out again tonight (damn) but I promise not to peek. Have you any idea when 5 will be out in the States. Apparently they're not going to leave such a gap between showing it in the US and the UK this time, to discourage people from downloading it. (Series two, I think, was the most downloaded tv prog ever or something liket that.) 58 59 00
Well the previews are still mind-numbingly cretinous, but David is doing the chivalrous thing and loading them up and telling me when I can look (I'm going to owe him aren't I). Series Three is getting to the pass-me-a-cushion stage but we're rationing ourselves to one episode a night. Not because we need the sleep but because we've found out that Series 5 doesn't kick off in the States until January! Hopefully they won't wait until after it's 24 week run before they show it over here. It does sound sad doesn't it - but Enzo - hey, you understand.

I understand completely Lou, I just don't know where you find the restraint to only watch one a day. Bless David, there's no way I'd do that for anyone! Yeah, I've heard January too, with a Feburary start here, but that may or may not be true. I've been so so close to Googling 'Season 5 24 plot rumo(u)rs' but stopped myself so far. I'm not to be trusted! Ben
Enzo, we've just watched THAT episode - chewing through sofa cushions to stifle blubbing. Do you know what got to me? 'My legs are shaking...' ‘…I’ve gotchyou’ P.s. David told me afterwards, that the opening picture for this particular episode was… Yep, you guessed it, Shpl with a gun to his head!!!!!!
