agents again
...
some time ago i asked for advice on here about agents as mine had lost my latest manuscript and also failed to deliver any constructive advice on the first book but had instead touted it in a rough form ... no surprise then when it didnt sell ...
i was advised here to bin her off and get someone else ... i think maybe rokkitnite said ... you have to have someone who loves your work ...
now, due to ferg's impressive generosity - she put me in touch with an agent she met via the uea ma - i have sent my second book to this agent and yesterday she told me she wants to represent the book ...
she concluded her letter ... "all in all i loved the book" ...
so i wanted to say thank you to those who advised me in the first place ... i think it is easy to lack confidence in yourself or your work when you are just starting out in the publishing world ... that thread make me think i had to demand better for myself and my books ... and i am grateful ...
i am also immensely grateful to ferg ... not just because of the introduction ... but because ferg is brilliantly supportive and through my discussions with her i realised that unless *i* spoke up for my work in a positive way - instead of being ridiculously self effacing and apologetic in that terrible english manner ... "oh i'm awfully sorry but i've written a little sort of book and if you wouldnt mind ... if you have time ... maybe you could perhaps read it ... " etc. - then nobody would look at my work seriously...
when i contacted this agent and in all dealings with her i am confident even if i don't especially feel it ... "here is my book ... i love it and i hope you will too" was the style of my approach ...
it makes a difference ... so thank you for that ferg ...
now the experience of writing the second has taught me so much i know i have to go and rewrite the first ...
