I don't know too much about any kind of publishing but have read about Publish America on here before and putting the name into any search engine will result in many, many websites/reports like this..... http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/ripoff104646.htm
My advice would be always try to weigh up the available pros and cons before you do anything.

Are there any sites out there which are no ablout to rip people off or am I being really naive?
I've been conned before by a few companies, Poetry.com (USA) is a prime example. NEVER pay for an entry into thier anthologies, they invited me over to the USA to read my poem, it was a huge scam. Dogma publications are okay, but you still pay for the book. Buy a copy of the Writers' & Artists Yearbook, it features good sites & highlights the bad ones.
