A lot of poetry is about recognising something you feel yourself. This congured up memories to me, I like it a lot.

Liked it too, conjured up vague memories of my times on rainsoaked english high streets. Should be sung to an odd lilting folky tune(?)...
i liked this too - ralph -off Bleaker Street is a nice cafe/street called Cornealia Street poetry/readings/theatre/music to put your song to - and somewhere to keep the rain off. -nice!

This definitely read like a song – very rhythmical, very good. There’s also a Bleaker Street in NYC, one of my favorite streets. This poem makes me want to sit in a café while it’s raining out regretting lost loves.
A song? A glimpse of a song? NYC? I couldn't grasp the sincerity of this. Kinda something you'd write in a bed full of Mr. Kipling crumbs on a week night.

There's nothing more mind-teasing than the incomprehensible eagerly avowed -

I really enjoyed this - some funky imagery. 'kebab stabbed boys' is very cool.Nice one Ralph!

I liked the kebab stabbed boys too but the sing-song nature annoyed me and the ending seemed weak. It's almost a very good poem but I don't think it makes it. Maybe it's just me.
I agree it's almost a good poem, but I think it's the simplicity of rhyming single syllable words that spoils it for me. I think rhyming needs to be clever, otherwise it sounds like something you've heard too many times before
I enjoyed reading this piece and agree that the line ' kebab stabbed boys' is great. Unfortunately there were some errors within it which jarred. I think we all have a responsibility to check our work thoroughly before posting and this seems to have a spelling error int the first stanza - 'And I’m soaked though to the heart' Or does that have some meaning I have missed? 'Due to the impending umbrella news' Does this mean that news about umbrellas is on its way? (yes I understand the reference to rain). These are minor faults which spoil and otherwise enjoyable read for me. I do agree that this would make an excellent blues song. Thanks for posting. NW.
It's a great poem & none the worse for rhyming. Why do people seem not to like rhyming poetry?

Thanks for your commenets everyone. I suppose it is more of song than a poem. I have been listening to lot of music recently. Especially Lloyd Cole. The piece is actually set in Kennington, South London.
