Hello everyone.

Am I the only one squirming at the conservative party's attempt to capture generation Y?

David Cameron, in his kitchen, on his website, on video, in earnest?

See, he must be sincere, he's been filmed in shaky-cam talking to his kids...

Thinking about this rationally, would you find it more appealing and/or convincing if everyone spoke to you via youtube style videos?

Just imagine it...

How much more natural and beguiling would Tony Cook seem if he sent you a video each month where he looked directly into the camera and told you, from the heart, what was going on with ABCtales?

Seriously, as internet users, has Digi-Dave changed your mind? Or you blogs mind? Or the mind of your myspace friends?

Has your laptop been fair thrumming at the wireless hotspot with binary changes of heart?

Stick it up your iPod,

Mark

My girlfriend sometimes talks to me on videophone. Hate it! I have to think about such things as Facial Expressions when talking... the indignity! ~PEPS~ You can’t finish a man till he’s finished his Texan Bar

The little bit I saw of it looked totally fake. Where does a Labour voter turn these days? You can't vote Labour because they've all got blood on their hands, and Cameron clearly supports the war. I guess it has to be Ming for King. Or "For king . . . Ming"
I think we should have one government. That's it! Just one. But it members must change every five years..DONE! Stamped and approved! End of. Call it "Just One Government...Thats it!" There are no politics in politics anymore....the civil political world ignites and we become starsovernight darling! Youtube is fine. boysfood.com is better I don't mine expressing myself on film. I do it all the time. I express myself to strangers and friends alike. I revel in my talent. Give me a DV camera and I'll be letting another little part of myself go to the hands of the public who them possess me until they see fit I should be forgotten. Bruce... do you mean Ming the Merciless? Evil nemesis of "classic" American-Football-playing sci-fi hero, Flash Gordon? Yan... agreed... "One Government"... with weekly Big Brother-like referendums (referendi?), where we the public get to "vote off" one MP of our choosing. ~PEPS~ You can’t finish a man till he’s finished his Texan Bar

"I think we should have one government. That's it! Just one. But it members must change every five years.." A bit like what they have in China, you mean? Democracy's quite good, really. Our politicians might be boring and semi-competent but they're not brutal, corrupt or repressive.

how many governments have we got now?

I suspect our friend Yan means something akin to a Proportional Representation-type system, rather than a brutal so-called "Communist" dictatorship... although I may be wrong. ~PEPS~ You can’t finish a man till he’s finished his Texan Bar

... which I kind of agree with, by the way. On account of the fact that our present system doesn't allow for enough continuity and long term planning. ~PEPS~ You can’t finish a man till he’s finished his Texan Bar

I don't know what I meant to be honest. if I'm stoned again later I'll come back and fill you in. ;) There's nothing more mind-teasing than the incomprehensible eagerly avowed - Dennett

You mean you were partaking of illegal substances when writing the above? I would never have guessed... ~PEPS~ You can’t finish a man till he’s finished his Texan Bar

I had a look at Webcameron last night. Found it frighteningly disarming. Very clever campaign. Who're Generation Y? The impression I get is that it's designed to appeal to people mid-twenties to early forties since Cameron's shtick is to appear as if he's amiably keeping up with technology at the same muddling pace that we are. The technologically on-the-ball will find his bumbling irritating. ~ I'll Show You Tyrants * Fuselit * The Prowl Log * Woe's Woe
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generation_Y Not a bad discussion of generation Y, all told... I think you might be right though Jon, I reckon that the Conservatives might just be trying to edge their membership/supporter base down a few decades rather than going for the throbbing youth jugular. Or maybe the idea is that bumbling is endearing and betrays humanity and approachability, akin to the shaky camera work of youth TV in the 90s? The Conservatives are always caught in the bind that the people that they most want to reach out to are often the people most feared or resented by the rump of the party: A shot by both sides situation if ever I saw one. Either way, it's a comfy, unthreatening middle-class domesticity that's on offer over at WebCameron (urgh!). Cheers, mark
