Always the hardest part of a story, I find ' the beginning. I'm new to the ABC submission process, so would like to introduce myself. I have been writing and selling poetry over the internet for a number of years, but have recently given this up for family reasons. I'm now trying my hand at short stories ' a tough challenge for me, as I keep getting the urge to make sentences rhyme! I would gratefully welcome any critiques or feedback on offer, as I know it will help me improve my prose-writing. Encouraged by my first story being "cherrypicked, I've just plonked lots of other stuff on the site too ' sorry!

Hello gareth (ggg) Welcome to ABC.
I don't really stammer, I'm just crap at typing! Thanks for saying hello, Cath - I notice you're a relative newbie too. But I have to say I'm looking forward to reading more of your poetry - your words have a physical impact, which makes me - well, JEALOUS, for want of a better word!
And from I... ;-) ~PEPS~ You can’t finish a man till he’s finished his Texan Bar

Peps - what a great name, and a great body of work. You're part of the furniture round here, and it's a pleasure to chat. I absolutely ADORE "Man On A Train" - great use of expressionism for comic effect - like "Scrubs" (currently the best American sitcom on TV).
Hello, gareth and welcome to ABC. p.s. Don't go too much by the 'Member for' blurb - I belive Cath Carr's been around since the semaphore days. God, epic poetry was a pain back then. ~ www.fabulousmother.com
Cheers Lou (or do you prefer 2?). I love FabMo, by the way. I've got a one-year-old son and it's all true! This is a fab site. The standard of writing is phenomenal, and as for the "Random Story" button: what a fabulous invention! My only (slight) criticism is that the "genre" of each story is at the bottom of each page, so you find yourself laughing at the death of someone's family member, assuming it's Humour, only to find (too late) that it's Autobiography. I like to judge my books by the cover!
Hello, and welcome to the site. I'll have to go and see if your prose does indeed rhyme! Lisa
Greetings and welcome Gareth, the first part is always the hardest, (except for participating in the continuation of mankind of course, where what follows is, while fun, usually more stressful). Enjoy the site, the reading, the writing and the off the wall arguing. nobody
Hi Gareth. Welcome to the site. It's good to see a neighbour here; I'm from Sandbach meself. I get in The Limelight quite often. Hope you enjoy! ;) There's nothing more mind-teasing than the incomprehensible eagerly avowed - Dennett

And a big welcome from the management. Here's to years more of you on ABC!
Yes welcome Gareth, I look forward to reading your work. I agree that the standard of writing on this site is phenomenal. I've been on other sites where it's obviously peopled by teens because there's so much text speak. WHICH I HATE!!!!!! It's probably because they can't spell. Styx.

Haha Styx! I agree - on the rare occasions I send a text message, I always write complete words, sentences and paragraphs. It gives me an enourmous sense of superiority, even if it takes me hours!
Hi Gareth. Welcome to ABC. Are you related to Pepsoid at all?
Why would he be? :-/ ~PEPS~ You can’t finish a man till he’s finished his Texan Bar

Related to Pepsoid? What gave it away - the crap typing or the enourmous sense of superiority?

Oh dear. I think Baiting Room was referring to gareth's compliments to peps. I'd ignore her...another lurking shadow from the past. Another bummed-out regular dolled up in spite and waiting for a bite. ;) Prose can rhyme, can't it? There's nothing more mind-teasing than the incomprehensible eagerly avowed - Dennett

Ah, there's nothing wrong with the occasional wind up. It's all in good humour (I think). God, no, the paranoia's starting again! Everyone hates me!
Well now everyone's said Hi, I can officially apologise for not saying hello back to you all. Thanks to the cherry people - they've only been and gone and done it again! Come on everyone: tell me what I'm doing wrong? The writing can't be that good, I've never published anything. Do your worst!
I've had a few cherries... ...therefore we must be unsung heroes of the written word, gggg! ;-) ~PEPS~ Here's a link to a blog wot I have started... http://pepsoid.wordpress.com/
