I gone got me book published

My novel - which came from a short story I posted on ABC nearly three years ago - is going to get published! Woot! It comes out in Spring 2008 from Hamish Hamilton.

I will have to take down these stories fairly soon for copyright wangles. If anyone's interested:

Get-out clause: these stories have been reworked alot since these original incarnations. They will be better in the book.

Thanks to ABC (I think Liana first flagged the story Submarine...) for all the support over the years. Viva Tony!

Joe

Joe, this really should be in the Getting Published forum. Bad form, old boy, bad form. Seriously, at last we in the know can stop biting our lips. Congrats. Awesome awesome awesome stuff. Woot indeed.
A massive congratulations and not a moment too soon. jude "Cacoethes scribendi" http://www.judesworld.net

and for anybody that doesn't know, Hamish Hamilton are part of penguin, the company I used to work for... and they publish only a few and carefully selected titles every year that they know are so well written and original, they're going to do fantastically well.

Joe, I am absolutely delighted for you. If there is anything we can do at ABC to help you publicise the book then we will do it. Booktribes should be rocking by then, so we'll make a big fuss of you over there as well. Many many congratulations.
This is the original discussion on the forum, interesting that Tony said he'd like "more and more and more." http://www.abctales.com/node/29767 Great stuff Joe. love macca
Now I've gone and broken my vow to post this as someone mailed me to come see - well done joe. It wasnt me that flagged it originally, it was the woefully missed Freda. I definitely remember reading it and admiring it very much just as I do most of your work. Cant wait to buy a copy. Did you take the syllable advice by the way? Heh. Fantastic news for your new year. x
I remember reading it at the time and I thought it was great then. Congrats Joe xxxxx

Many Congratulations! ;) There's nothing more mind-teasing than the incomprehensible eagerly avowed - Dennett

That's brilliant, congratulations and an inspiration to us all. nobody
I shall wear my best red leatherette slippers tonight in celebration. Congratulations.
Your success is totally deserved Spack. HH are onto a winner. My faith in the publishing industry is restored. Well done.
Wahoooo Joe. Congrats. Obviously well deserved, and obvious it would happen, but that does not make it any less exciting or wahooworthy. Bravo!
And looking at the original thread - I was clearly in hot-typing mode - missing out letters as I went. Ho Hum. Still, it is an inspiration to us all that HH have seen the light and I am just so pleased for you.
That's fantastic! Well done, Joe. How long did it take you to write? Did you do it all at once or keep going back to it? What was the word count in the end? Babble, babble, babble... ~ www.fabulousmother.com

Great news, Joe! Many congratulations to you.
Thanks guys! I really appreciate it. Tony - you know I'll take you up on the offer of all the publicity you can offer me. I've just started exploring booktribes - I'm enjoying it just as a way to be smug about all the books I've read. 2Lou - It took two and a half years. I wrote it on my masters course in Creative Writing and, after that, while I was doing part time work and getting in to debt. The final word count was about 83,000. Cheers! Joe xx

83,000! and two and a half years! *gulp* You deserve a huge pat on back for perseverance. Can't wait to see it. ~ www.fabulousmother.com
Well done Spack. Don't stop posting here - it would be an emptier place without you!
well done, Joe, i heard about this at the start of the week from one of my agents in the field. what everyone here has so far tactfully avoided mentioning is the HUGE advance Joe's getting. i'd say the milky bars are on me, but with that kind of lolly, i'm afraid they'll pretty well definitely have to be on you. congrats!

I guess it's kind of like how you don't mention your salary to your co-workers. I haven't said congratulations yet, so I will now. Congratulations!
So that's what Lou's 83,000 was about...? Not jealous at all...! ;-) pe ps oid ... What is "The Art of Tea"? ... (www.pepsoid.wordpress.com)

Well done Joe, that's great news. Enzo.. Read my rubbish novel as it happens! http://somesolitude.wordpress.com/
Thanks chaps! That story never saw the light of day beyond ABC, Emma. Maybe I will ressurect it. Joe
Many congratulations! Why so long until it comes out? Anyhow, keep us updated (please post a reminder for those of us with short-term memories) and I will def buy it. Lisa
Hmmm, why does everything exciting happen whilst I (a) have no internet connection, (b) am busy grasping new job, (c) moving house, getting stressed, desperately trying not to murder husband who has no concept of how important it is for women to have house packed up at least 12 hours before they move! (and breathe) Congrats Spack, you are without doubt most deserving and I wait with baited breath to buy my copy. BTW, you will be signing for abc'ers before you get too famous won't you? xx
