Your 10 indispensable books

I nicked this off Booktribes - so if you use it and you haven't been to Booktribes recently, then you owe them one!

Organisers of World Book Day on March 1 - which encourages reading among both children and adults with hundreds of events in schools and bookshops throughout Britain - are inviting as many people as possible to put together the list of the 10 books that they cannot live without.

Entries can be posted on a special area of the World Book Day website at http://www.worldbookday10.com. It’s planned that the results of the survey- the nation’s most indispensable books - will be announced a a press release on March 1.

No books are indispensable... :-) pe ps oid ... What is "The Art of Tea"? ... (www.pepsoid.wordpress.com)

And here's the answers that came in - click on to the World book Day page and then open the adobe page that has all the results. Pride and Prejudice was a stand out winner. Ho hum. http://www.worldbookday.com/
1) Pride and Prejudice – Jane Austen 20% 2) Lord of the Rings – JRR Tolkein 17% 3) Jane Eyre – Charlotte Bronte 14% 4) Harry Potter books – J K Rowling 12% Looks like escapism is the order of the day.
at the moment 1) Ikea catalogue 2) Cargo Homeshop Catalogue 3) Habitat catalogue 4) John Lewis Catalogue (indulgence in, given the affordability is indeed escapism) jude "Cacoethes scribendi" http://www.judesworld.net

Well, assuming that it's all of LoTR and all the Harry Potter books, I think insulation is also a key theme. That's a good thing. It saves loads on heating bills.

'Looks like escapism is the order of the day.' Yeah, cos you're so real, dawg. Jon Stone reads books so brutal and IN YOUR FACE that when I opened one a blast of truth seared the eyebrows from my forehead. CAN YOU HANDLE IT?!!!111
Just because you read about giant robots piloted by Chairman Mao having sex with the spirit of the Earth personified as a woman with only one dress.
