By the way I think you will find more members of this site are in The United Kingdon than anywhere else, there are those from other countries too of course but I wouldn't worry too much about where people come from if I were you. Given the constantly evolving nature of language, and the mass proliferation of mobiles and use of texting, I wonder how many years it will be before standard English starts to look like current text-speak. Mississippi, If someone has a flip comment in the middle of a serious debate, smile or ignore it. Threads are conversations, and if they can't evolve for fear that someone will attack you for it, where are we at? I don't snort tea with your comments, Mississippi. I feel ill. I feel stressed. I get a knot in my tummy, and worry about the person the insults have been directed at. Even writing this, I'm upset. My option, of course, is to abandon ABC. That would be a sad thing, as I have made some friends on this site, and enjoyed posting and reading work. But, I feel very strongly about bullying. I, as I'm sure others on this site, have been abused in the past. I don't deal with it well, now. It's not a way to live your life, either receiving or giving. You may think I am overreacting. But I am at a point where I'm going to stop coming here, because of the sniping.

I think that lisah is making a good point. The forums have been well behaved for a while now but this thread is ridiculous. Please control yourselves. If someone acts like an idiot then please just ignore them and move on. I hate it when people leave becasue they feel threatened by other members. We're all far too old for this kind of nonsense so just bloody STOP IT .

This review, (I am guessing - I have absolutely no evidence) was probably written by somebody who came to this site looking for yards of feedback for nothing ...a problem with many people. They don't stop to think that we might not actually want to read their writing any more than we want to listen to our neighbour's grade 1 piano lesson. Rokkit pointed out that reading and giving feedback is his main source of income, that may not be the case for all of us but we have jobs and other commitements and our time is valuable. Writer's workshops are also not free and you are expected to participate and respond to other people's work. So why do so many people come here with the slightly greedy desire for free feedback, ask for it without a thought of putting anything into the site (neither giving crit or a donation which many regulars do) and then get pissed off when they don't get it?The 'give to receive' philosophy we gently advise is not a mutual back scratching exercise but about contributing to the site community as much as taking out. jude "Cacoethes scribendi" http://www.judesworld.net

I've gone onto google looking for comments, and have found comments ranging from neutral/descriptive to very praising indeed. I did find one negative comment actually, from someone who found the site "confusing" in that they had trouble navigating their way round it. That is not the same thing as above though, and I have found no evidence to it being slagged off by "the writing community", something i obviously do not belong to. I use different sites, they serve different purposes, it's horses for courses. I am as supportive as I can be of this one. I generally avoid the discussion forums because, perhaps, I am oversensitive to jibes and sniping. I am with Lisa all the way. This has got to me and I have now succumbed to doing the same(see above), so I shall fuck off out of it.
