well, hello

Fancy seeing you here. Haven't been on properly for AGES as I do not have a computer or internet connection and I work during library hours.

So, what is new? Lots of things probably.

Tell me about them.

Something good that's happened recently is: I came up with a really easy way to make my book much better by getting rid of one of the main characters entirely thus simplifying the whole darn thing just like my agent wanted me to but without changing major bits of plot.

Something bad that's happened recently is: I became homeless by mistake and am now finding it hard to find somewhere to live without a deposit. But this is a good thing in some ways because when I do find somewhere I will be grateful for small things such as: cups of tea and ginger nut biscuits on my own sofa, a bathroom I can use whenever I like, crap tv, a sense of security.

Smoking ban is weird. was taken for a curry and couldn't smoke myself stupid whilst drinking gin and tonics, which was odd. But I smell nicer. And get to moan with other smokers outside places which somehow creates a sense of solidarity.

Gordon Brown is Prime Minister and it doesn't really feel like a big deal one way or the other.

Posh Spice moved to America and I couldn't give a flying satsuma. The Spice Girls reformed and I am embarassed for all of them except Baby who I've always kind of liked for no good reason. I had an ex boyfriend who vehemently hated her forehead for some reason, but I think these two things are unrelated.

I turned thirty and it makes no differenc in my life at all other than people looking incredulous when I tell them my age which is good for my shallow ego.

I saw Travis at Thetford Forest and was right at the very very front and they were breathtaking.

I was surprisingly touched by the 'stone of courage' that kid gave Phil Mitchell's kid in Eastenders. Haven't been touched by Eastenders since Arthur went doolally.

Oh, and it has rained a lot.

Welcome back. It's great to have you! Great news about the book. I am so looking forward to reading Joe's and Drew's novels which are coming out from major publishing houses next year. Hopefully you won't be too far behind them. Bad news about the homelessness, unfortunately you don't have the bank of Mum and Dad for money for a deposit or any other tricky situation. I was so excited when I turned thirty. My twenties were terrible though! hugs xx jude "Cacoethes scribendi" http://www.judesworld.net

Hiya Ferg, I thought I was all used to being over 30 but the other week I was walking past some kids mucking about on the street and one of them said to another "watch out, you nearly knocked over that man" I looked over my shoulder and thought "what man?"

I smell just as bad as ever. Hope your housing problem gets sorted soon, Fergal.
Hope you find somewhere soon, Fergal. 30?? I wish I could remember 40! I smell bad too sometimes, hey is there a word for unable to smell? An equivalent to blind, deaf etc. I feel uncomfortable with olfactorily challenged.
Hayley! I wondered what had happened to you. I've already bored people with some of the stuff I've been up to. http://www.oneinfourmag.org for example. Aside from that I've been writing and reading. And I went see to Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat starring Lee from off of the telly programme. Drop me a line if you get a chance, it'd be great to catch up properly. Cheers, Mark

Hi Fergal, I haven't been around here much either. I'm still trying to get the internet TV business going, and it seems to take 14 hours out of every day. I hope you get the housing sorted soon, but don't take a long lease; once you've been published it'll be Hollywood for you! My bad news; a kidney stone. I collapsed and had to go to hospital. My good news; the stone has gone, and I can piss at will with a smile on my face. In fact, I think I'll have one now.

"...getting rid of one of the main characters entirely..." Who? Ben's bad stuff: 1. Well, it's not terribly bad news but the baby is a little overdue. The waiting is wearing thin, but apparently the cervix isn't. 2. Had a minor on / off rash for months. 3. Bouts of insomnia. 4. Been starting a lot of writing things and not seeing them through. Can't focus. Good Stuff: 1. Pregnancy is a cool thing to watch happen day-by-day. From the outside, at least. 2. The rash doesn't itch very much, and it's only on the arms so it doesn't notice. 3. I like to write when I can't sleep. And play computer games. And read. And sit around. 4. Got a sneaky cherry writing under a different name.

Hey Ferg - Quite a lot going on, yes? How does one become homeless "by mistake"? I've done a lot of things by mistake, and a few things I did on purpose, I labeled as mistakes, but for all of them, I've never become homeless, either by mistake or on purpose. Anyway... Writing's going well - once every five or six months, I'll get a short story in published, usually in an ezine - that will be as far as I go, but I'm okay with that. I'm curious to see what's up with your book. Work's going well, but every day I'm reminded in about ten different ways why I once walked away from the corporate tax world, and wonder why I walked back. So it's nice to hear from you.
Hello all, nice to see all those familiar names. Only have 2 mins to pop on here so a general 'nice to hear from you' for now. I will email people as soon as I have a proper moment to compose. pompous fool that I am. Going to sort this facebook thing out as soon as. Ben - it's Juliet!!! (I don't usually agree with exclamation marks but I am sure you will agree this is quite a huge change) Juliet and Stella are now just Stella. I was sure the baby would be here by now... Homeless by mistake - such a long story but really I doubt many people become homeless on purpose, at least not consciously. Speak soon, H.
Good to have back on again. The news? I'm a grandad - and feeling like it today. ABC and Booktribes are going fine but, fingers crossed, there's big things a-coming for both sites in the Autumn. We're also off to what promises to be a very wet WOMAD at the weekend. Good luck with the housing situation.
Hello! Good luck with the rewrites. My agent too told me to get rid of a character but she was right and 4000 words got chopped in a day. The book is better for it and she did manage to sell it so no complaints. I got a release date for the book - 3rd July. And am working hard on the new one (but not hard enough - keep getting distracted), but am nearly at the end now. Today I am writing about the Hindenberg air disaster, the philosophers' base gets stormed by the Americans and they flee in their airships.... I too have barely registered that we have a new pm, or that half the country is underwater. I got a payrise at work. Am off to Prague next week. Am judging this year's Leicestershire short story comp - stories on my kitchen table waiting to be read. Have just got blog of the day at Fuelmyblog http://www.fuelmyblog.com and have been reading a lot. And I too am addicted to facebook - and even have set up a group for 'Me and Mickie James' http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2618721629 23 members!!!! Whoohoo!! Maddan you made me laugh 'that man'! Know what you mean. Ferg being in my 30s has been fine. I'm 37 next year so practically nearly 40. Ben - good luck with baby. And which story. Will you email with links.... I miss reading you stories. Drew

Hi Fergal, nice to have you back. Sadly I don't remember much of being 30. Had my third and last child that year, he's now six! Maddan, I can totally relate - I still feel young, but I suppose, I'm almost at the halfway mark. It's all downhill from here... Drew, check out any cutlery in the recent cherries. I think that's Enzo in hiding. :) Lisa

Blimey Lisa, how the bloody hell...?
:)
I didn't know it was him - and I gave it a cherry! It proves that good writing will shine through!
I read it Enzo. Yeah, it's great! I love your style - it's so fast, sharp, and spot on. Write some more of this. I want to know more about the characters, what happens next.

Oh, and Ben, perhaps in the story, make her pregnant. Then he has something to need a job for. More than anyway.

hello fergs nice to see you ... i still have a spare room ... and the offer still stands ... added bonus ... house is magnificently tidy and perfect! (am selling it) ha! xxx
How kind of the fish. Unfortunately I don't have a spare room to offer but I hope you get sorted soon! My bits of good news: -I have bought a 32 inch Samsung HD LCD TV which is being delivered tonight. -I have been accepted to take an MA (part time). -Our flats are being demolished and I looked around the show house demonstrating what the replacements will be like and they are lovely and large with a beautiful big balcony (thanks to the battle axes on our residents' association). Can't wait to move in - probably next year or 2009. Not trying to rub salt into your situation but I am very excited! - The bank have agreed to repay all the penalty charges I accrued in my unmanageable partying days with interest and thanks to the current High court ruling they are unlikely to close down my account as a result (not that it matters much since I don't use that account anyway)! - I'm going on hols to California in September! My bits of bad news: - I am going to be very busy come September and uni again! - My carrot crop failed due to me not thinning them out jude "Cacoethes scribendi" http://www.judesworld.net

... oh and the other good news is that I just passed the 6 month mark sans cigarettes. jude "Cacoethes scribendi" http://www.judesworld.net
