I don't have a high opinion of either of them.
I haven't heard the actual clip so have no opinion of it. I'd be surprised if it's worth all the fuss though.
I download the Russell Brand podcast each week. It's never hilarious, but it does have some great moments and is always worth a listen.
Almost every week he calls someone and insinuates/states he has had/will have sex with them / their mother / daughter / granddaughter. It's not that funny, and its pretty routine stuff.
In my opinion, the number of complaints are completely disproportionate to the material. When I heard it, I thought, "That's a bit harsh," and chuckled a little. Didn't think any more about it. I've heard a lot lot lot worse, we all have.
I really find it hard to believe people find it very offensive. I can believe that people find Ross and his pay packet offensive, and that a lot of people read the Mail. A combination of those factors = 000s of complains.
If you want to hear it: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=U7IHJ66wj9g
I definitely agree with Enzo and Maddan that it is probably all a lot of fuss over some pretty juvenile humour. I don't read the Mail, and I didn't complain. I just think Ross is a c***, and I don't care how much he gets paid, it would make no difference to my opinion of him. I have never seen a more self-obsessed chat-show host, and there are some real narcissists plying the trade.
Brand has something child-like and innocent about him and I think people will be willing to forgive him more quickly, even Mail readers. This I find bizarre, as I think Mr Brand has far more capacity and inclination to shock those very people than that popinjay Ross.
i like ross, brand is, ok, can be funny, i thought the bbc was basically spineless, should have acted quicker, instead let the daily mail set the agenda (The was broadcast with very few complants) it was only when the mail kicked up a fuss that the story took hold)
bring back brand (even though i don't find him that funny) and bring back ross from suspension
Of course there has been an overreaction led by that bastion of decency, the Mail.
And of course, when the middle classes are stirred, heads will roll.
Even so, I can`t see what the fuck is funny about telling a 78 year old that Brand humped his grand daughter.
Bejasus! This is still ABC-someone must disagree with what`s been said.
More importantly-Ross once asked a Tory MP in an interview (can`t remember which one-they tend to blur) if they had masturbated about Thatcher.
I have no problem with masturbation-it is the most common form of sexual activity-but Thatcher?
This is a slur on every hetrosexual male in the Western World-anyone who thinks Thatcher worthy of a wank should be sacked.
Immediately,
(Does this prove that Ross is a tosser)?
Well, it is positively illogical (as Spock would have said) to harbour lustful thoughts about Thatcher.
And Ross (or anyone of a like mind ) should be treated to a swift kick in the testicles.
Having said all of that, I would certainly have given Virginia Bottomley one...
The BBC press dept should also be given a swift kick to an offending area. They were their ususal slow and arrogant selves at first and then, when the whole thing has got out of control, they indulge in a mass round of self flaggelation. It's a ludicrous way to deal with a 'crisis'. There are 90 of them for heaven's sake and I think they could do a little better.
As for Ross and Brand, you will notice that most of the bile has been saved for Ross. That's because he has upset a lot of journalists over the years and this is payback time - he's an arrogant twit and this has been waiting to happen. He's also highly litigous himself and as you sow, so shall ye reap.
The one I feel sorry for is poor Georgina Baillie (the fuckee). She's a member of Satanic Sluts Extreme so it's not hard to see why she might feel offended.
