ABCtales is saved!

I am delighted to be able to announce that ABCtales is to carry on. A group of members including rjnewlyn, insertponceyfrenchnamehere, philip sydney, airyfairy and seashore have agreed to take on the responsibility for running the site.

There are structural changes behind the scenes - it will be a pure Charity for now on, for example - but the day to day stuff will remain much the same.

This means that you, the members, will have a far greater responsibility too. These people do not have the money to pay the bills without your support. You will need to cough up! Details of how to do so will be sent to you soon  but please, please support them or ABC will not continue for long. It only requires those that use the site on a regular basis to pay anything from £5 to £20 a month on a direct debit and all will be well. Those who live on the breadline already are not expected to contribute. We all want this site to be genuinely open to all whatever their circumstances.

After 17 years of hard graft it is time for me to stand aside but I will be there, lurking in the background, ready with advice and help if needed. I am very proud of what we have achieved between us here and I am delighted that it will continue. My heartfelt thanks go to those who stood up the plate when the chips were down.

Thank you also to the good people who have saved this wonderful site.  I don't get on  here very often now because of my involvement with Parkinson's  Players but I will be back one day.

Very glad things are going in the right direction, and for all the positive reactions to this news. Donations obviously extremely welcome! But please hold your horses for the time being. We're in the process of assembling a new donations system - probably JustGiving, as it will accept monthly donations as well as one-offs. We hope to have something on the site in the next few days. In the meantime perhaps you could all look under your sofa cushions, keep your eyes on the pavement when you walk anywhere etc

What about a paid book promotion idea as a few authors here have books out and marketting them is hard work. Maybe a fee for featuring members books on the front page for a duration depending on how many days they want it up?

Marvellous news. This is a great site and a great showcase for all our efforts, and it should be kept going. Thankyou to all of you who are willing to keep it functioning, and to all of you who have been operating it over the years and to Tony Cook who has done a great job. I shall be very willing to contribute by standing orders. This seems a very suitable solution.
