BBC Sport Shorts

What's this? Has Ely had a short play selected,or has he been selected to play in shorts? I think we should be told.

Cheers Ralph. It was that "doing my bit" ten minute play i put up her a while ago. It's been picked as one of the seven 'winners' although not the 'overall winner' even though the only discernable difference is that they get tickets to the 'sports personality of the year' and that otherwise we're all equals (... yes, we ARE all equals) I'm told that five of the seven are to be produced so the odds are good, plus there are only two characters so it should be cheap. Saying that, there is an insult to Harry Kewell in there and you know how tetchy HE can get when he's mentioned on the Beeb so they might be a bit scared of that. ... so there we are then, any suggestions on how I might get something out of this?

well done ely ... in terms of getting something out of this ... get onto your local bbc radio ... speak to the managing editor and make sure yours is taken note of/broadcast ... suggest to the managing ed that you can do anything relating to writing and sport ... or writing and anything ... tell the managing ed. you want to come in and meet them and look round the station ... tell them you will be their writer in residence ... local bbc stations have a new remit to be learning centres ... i dont know how far this has rolled out yet ...but i was in radio cov the other day and they are certainly having writers' workshops at the station ... take a similar line with your local paper ... i was once advised that 'nothing is for nothing' and so i have taken every opportunity to do things ... all my work has come out of doing things for nothing in the first place, writing wise ... get in there lad! xxx

cheers fish, I'm gonna do just that. I never thought of local BBC radio or even workshops and so on. I guess they're all steps towards being paid for writing anfd so they're all worth taking.
