Thanks very much, Tony. I wrote this yesterday, feeling rather buoyed up after Enzo and Macmanaman's encouragement. You're right in thinking it's meant as a performance piece - though I guess I'd have to judge the audience before attempting it!

All I could think as I read it was 'Bloody hell!'... Lenny Bruce meets the Sex-pistols. Dark and dangerous and very brave stuff Rokkit.

Greatly offensive. But still great. I loved "force-feeding diabetics angel cake" and "till the air got sireny" and how the liberal papers would spin this.

"Wrote a treatise on the Hungarian famine called: Hungry Hungary Gypos." I'll be chuckling to myself about this line for days.... If something is truly funny, it can't be offensive. I think this could have been written by a teenager out to impress a bunch of his friends. It has no wit or any real humour in it, but just uses pure vulgarity which to tell you the truth is something which is suited to the play ground or soemthing you hear being shouted out of prison windows 'but to tell you the truth i dont think even prisoners would give this a rating, or written ona school toilet wall and im really surpirsed the editors actually gave this a cherry when so many other good pieces of work are over looked. I can see were his humour is trying to come from but really.Sorry if it is not what your after.

Stephen's got a point, actually. When, in the poem, the Guardian says "What a sordid treat this is!" we've done exactly the same and, as good liberals, lined up to praise the real thing, even though it would be offensive to a lot of people on many counts. So should we have said "Tim, we know you're talented, but this stuff is vile, please take it off the site?" Not in my opinion, because I think it's a serious poem beneath the underlying humour and, even if it wasn't it would still be very very funny and original. And that should suffice.

I'm no good liberal, I just know what i like and I like this. And to suggest - to even consider - that "...this could have been written by a teenager out to impress a bunch of his friends. Thank you very much for all your feedback and comments. My writing tends to be more character-driven than theme-based, so I don't usually have an agenda to push so much as a desire to entertain people and maybe get them thinking. Given that much of the poem's content is about horrible things, I don't think the piece necessarily fails if the audience are disgusted by it. I'm not sure if there's a point to be disinterred, per se, but I think the audience reaction to the poem's content is almost as important as the content itself. (which itself is more concerned with the country's reaction to the material than the material itself... woah, meta!) Anyhow, cheers for all your opinions and ideas. I really appreciate them.

sorry iws talkign shit and was juts pissed of yesterday. *between 2001 2004 ther were series humanr ights abuses happening in greater glasgwo concerning people who had self harm behaviour. Some very series. These abuse were extending in to all parts of the community and seen suicide and self harm rise in parts of glasgwo unexplained. Tow years ago the assistant govenor of barlinne prison during the 90s stodd in front of hundreds of nhs officials outsdie hall in glasgow and talked about series incidnets involving this group of people which were going unchecked in Scotland. It was missed by the media. These peopel were taken on journeys of death by big bad scotsmen and women who work ins ervcies and think punishment should be given to people whos elf harm. please help it...
