publishing small amounts of books

was sent this through a mailing list i am on....thought it might be useful:

At author.co.uk we have created an imprint, Author Publishing Ltd, to
encourage writers to consider publishing their own work. This is a bespoke
service, using print on demand for books that may not have a huge demand,
yet deserve publication.

To demonstrate the process we have now produced several books; our own
Pathways to Publication, see www.author.co.uk/2002 helps new writers
through the maze of writing and publishing. The A-Z of Education, see
www.author.co.uk/education is an acerbic look at teaching, seen through the
eyes of a Liverpool teacher. Chrome Red, see www.author.co.uk/durlabh, is
an anthology of the poetry of Durlabh Singh, a London-based poet and
painter. Then follow two reprints of the gritty romantic novelist, Gilli
Allan, see www.author.co.uk/allan More books are planned, one will be
submitted to the Booker Prize, as we believe in it.

Each book serves a different purpose, each reaches a different market. All
are designed to show that 'you can do it' with a little help from friends,
and that you do not have to submit to the grasping hands of vanity publishers.

We are slowly developing a distribution system, and are creating a UK
Affiliate of the US based Publishers Marketing Association because writing
is OK, publishing is possible, but selling is the really hard part.

Any group considering producing an anthology, particularly one that may
have a small or local audience, should talk to us. We may be able to help,
by offering advice if nothing else.
