i just read this and wow! it has such energy, it just pulls you straight in. the satire is so well done, exactly capturing the fear and desperation under the religion, and i like the slightly hallucigenic blending of the church and the club.

Thank you Belle! I'm chuffed that you liked it. I wanted it to have some energy so I wrote sections of it pretty fast. I went to one of these young and hip church evenings recently; I was scared at how cool it all was. I feel much safer when Christians are useless and stodgy. Cheers for the flag! Joe
I like the last two lines very much, but I think you could be more inventive with that fucking fucking fucking cunt bit. Also, I like the idea of not wanting to succumb to being 'unafraid' but I think the 'I'm scared, I'm scared, please...' confuses this somewhat. I prefer the idea, throughout the poem, that it's all quite fun and absorbing, leading up to a last bout of angry resistance. "You can't make me unafraid!" Also, maybe one two many mentions of 'the Lord' or 'God'? When you get to 'The Lord is relevant', I feel like the only purpose of that line is to remind me you're still in a church. Is powerful stuff, nevertheless, Joe. But hey, look at us two back-patting each other! Lumme etc.
Yes - it's a bit of a love in, isn't it? I was wondering about the numbers of God and Lords. The line "The Lord is still relevent" was supposed to echo "The preacher is irreverent." I think you're right about the I'm scared line - I'll cut it. It was written on the quick so needs some trimming back. I might cut a few other bits too. When I wrote the fucking fucking fucking thing I thought it better to go very very very over the top than not, but you may be right, it's not terribly inventive. But I'm glad you like the ending. Joe
WOW... I really enjoyed this. I don't mind the fucking fucking fucking bit because it seems to fit and obviously hasn't been thrown in for effect. Anyone who's been to a charismatic/ evangelical church service as an outsider will know exactly where this poem is coming from. It deserves a cherry and more of the same please
