This is exceedingly dark. Chant is brilliant at the drole, matter-of-fact voice, but here it's used to chillier effect. The last lines are ace.

yes a memorable ending to this one. i like the obliqueness in a lot of chant's poems
chant has developed a body of these shortish poems that would make at least a cou8ple of interesting collections. He's prolific and the poems are consistently strong, and in collection I would think the cumulative effect would be impressive.
