Excuse my wrong foruming but...

a chapter from my book is being read on Radio 4 at 3.30pm today. By a man I've never met.

The chapter was posted on Abctales many moons ago:

It's changed a bit since then.

You can probably do that funky listen again online thing - the programme's called The Time Being.

Brilliant! You must be chuffed to bits. I get chuffed when people I've met read my stuff, never mind people I haven't reading it out on national radio. Good one Joe. Cheers, Mark

Congrats! Here's more info: 15:30 Afternoon Reading The Time Being 23 April 2007 Series of original stories by unpublished writers. By Joe Dunthorne. On a family holiday in Tuscany, a teenage boy views his parents with all the scorn he can muster. Read by Matt Green. http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/schedule/ I'll be in the middle of the school run. But it is available for the next 7 days. Lisa

...I'm sorry. I can't believe I actually posted that. I need to get out more.
Enzo, I'm going to look at you in a completely new light now... On a similar vein, on Radio 2 this morning, the chap (I forget who) filling in for a poorly Wogan remarked that Little Red Corvete by Prince was not about cars. I feel totally naive and kinda grossed out, and I really need to find the disk and listen to it again - with wide open eyes! Lisa
On a similar vein? Is a corvete Prince's name for the female sex organs?
congrats spack!
"Like the kind you find in a second-hand store...." Oops. Wrong track.
That's a good point. Surely a raspberry beret is even more explicit?
A paisley park? And then you could call.. oh, perhaps not. I had a listen and i bloody love that story... the man reading it though I thought not right at all. The voice I read is deadpan, and Matt Green is all over enunciating. Terrible. Did you take the vine/spiders legs out? I really liked that.
congratulations, usually i try to listen everyday if i can and would love to write well enough to get on, but i was home early today, will look it up and have a listen. I'd be shouting it from the rooftops - so jealous. Juliet

I took the vine spider's legs thing out at some point. I don't know why. I don't know when. Maybe I'll reinstate it. It's an appropriately cruel-boyish observation. Thanks Liana, Fish, Juliet! Joe

Joe, I'm just now getting to this - well worth the wait! Great stuff, and some really superb images. foster.
Joe i finally found time to have a listen and the story is great, loved the end scene. I have to agree though that the reader did not do it in the way i imagined it, and i actually preferred reading the version on here. You paint a vivid scene with lots of insightful and fresh description, i could hear them. Can i ask, how did you get it onto Radio 4,was it an unsolicited attempt or through agent or competition? I got an email from my old university tutor telling me that a production company were looking for unpublished writers for a reading slot on Radio 4. So I sent the production company the story and they accepted it. I had next to no input in the whole thing. They just told me when it was going to be on. Joe
Congrats Joe! As you are now officially the 'next big thing' of British fiction I do hope you won't forget your pals on ABC! Will you be able to come along to the Brighton event on june 23rd?
Hey Tony, I won't forget ABC! In fact, I'm writing my acknowledgements page today... I'm sadly at Glastonbury (not that sadly) the weekend of the 23rd though. Joe
excellent stuff joe just come across a site you're connected to, pennedinthemargins and blow me down with a feather, i've met the dude who started it, Tom, he used to post on another message board (urban75) that i go on, and i did a gig with him in herne hill many moons ago
Cheers Martin, that's interesting - I've only got to know Tom over the last six months but I know he used to do gigs in Herne Hill. I'm doing a tour with him for a poetry book that he published. It's a teeny tiny world. Joe
aye it is i ordered the book as well, and checked out the myspace stuff...
Nice one! Let me know what you think of it. Cheers, Joe
