The Orwell Prize are blogging Orwell's diaries 50 years after they were written. At the moment he is in a Kent sanatorium and seems to be mostly concerned with snakes and the weather (it's thrilling stuff):

Thanks for the link, Dan. I found this particularly interesting because it made me realise how many snakes there used to be. I wondered if we have had our own saint (was it Patrick in Ireland?) who rid us of snakes, as I've never seen one in the wild here in the UK.
