Footsie - the definitive word!

Hi folks,

I'm sorry but I've been up a mountain for the past 10 days with very limited access to anything remotely connected to the internet.

I am back and I have written to Footsie for some assurances on what any money donated will go towards and what will happen if we do not reach the target. I am very keen to be assured that this is money well spent as much of it comes from people who, frankly, cannot afford it.

As for ABC donating to Footsie - you should know that ABC runs at a loss, funded by me personally. It is true that it would have died a few years back if Footsie hadn't stepped into the breach as our techie and I have made my appreciation clear on many occasions since. That appreciation is undimmed.

I will wait to hear back from him and then make my position clear on this matter.

Regards,
Tony

Hello Tony, Thank you for coming back on this but as far as ABC making a donation is concerned that is not something I suggested as I know the site needs donations to help it keep going. My suggestion, is that if you would allow people to use the Paypal button and mark their donation as Footsie Fund that would be a good way forward. Then I thought perhaps that could complicate things for you so suggestions welcome. Moya

I'd like to send a tiny amount to go directly to Footsie for his techy contribution here, now, soon, and when I can, will make a contribution to abctales. I don't mind what he spends it on. Will wait to hear back if this is ok via paypal button here. Thanks. https://twitter.com/NickyGoodman

I don't mind what he spends it on either. I certainly think that this appreciation of his techie skills and contribution to the site is in place. We're all Abc-it's a community isn't it? And I think that whoever wants to help Footsie should be allowed to. And it doesn't matter how little you donate or if you don't donate at all because you can't afford to. It's great if you have the energy but if you don't then that's quite okay. There's no pressure. And there's no question of moral. This fund was started by the community of abc and noone else. Footsie didn't ask but I hope he can accept the donations. If I was being evicted from my house I think I would despair.

Assuming that the money wouldn't be well spent is an insult.
The silence is deafening.

Now there are two threads on this matter. Here is my reply copied from the other thread: The silence is only deafening because I had to take my wife to A and E. I made her wait this morning because I had to deal with this matter. My point to Footsie was not to ask what he would spend the money on. That would, of course be demeaning. What I actually asked was this: 'Dear Paul, I see the outpouring on ABC and clearly there is a move to help you. So far £98 has been donated in your name. This clearly will never amount to the 6 grand you need and I want to be sure that you want to carry on with this. If you do, then I will send you the money in whatever manner is best for you. I would imagine a direct bank transfer. However, please be aware that many of these people have very little disposable cash. I am delighted that they are so keen to help - but if the fund reaches £1,000 I shall be amazed. Would that help? I will, of course, contribute myself but I do want to be assured that this money is going to genuinely help you in some way with your housing situation. I think that is only responsible. Cheers, Tony' I had hoped to keep this private too but I received this reply: 'I have said all I have to say in the FTSE fund forum topic. If you had the slightest insight, intelligence, or were not infected with Poncey-ism, you could deduce the rest for yourself. Who the hell do you think you are talking to? I'm being lectured on toilet hygiene by a turd.' I had already read what he had said and I hadn't found an answer. Maybe I'm being thick. So I wrote back to him and asked him not to be abusive, that I really wanted to help but that I had a responsibility to the membership to be assured that the money would not just disappear into a black hole but would be or real use to him. He then went public and what more can I do? I shall refund the monies paid into the PayPal account for Footsie to those that paid them out and if you want to help him directly then email him and ask him for his bank account details so that you can transfer it directly to him. I have tried my utmost to be a fair and reasonable arbiter and to take my responsibilities to one and all on board. I have clearly failed. I am very sorry for that but no disrespect or harm was intended and all that I have received is a pile of abuse.
I am very sorry if you think I have been patronising. It was not my intention and re-reading my email I still don't think it reads that way. I understand that you are under a great deal of stress and that life is pretty awful for you. I, and many others, would help if we were allowed by you to do so.
