Ever wanted to rewrite someone elses work?
Have you ever read anything on ABCTales and thought "damn, that is a great idea, but it could be better if..."
I do. Would you take offense if somebody said to you about your piece of work 'let me rewrite it for you' or 'let me edit it for you'?
Nope, I wouldnt take offence at all. I run a writers group online, and we do that all the time, as in "If this was mine, I would do this, or that to it"
It often is useful to get anothers opinion, and we often argue points for days!
I try not to tell people "this is how I would do it". Instead, if I know the other writer well, I try to place myself in their shoes and imagine any changes the would like to make but have just failed to notice. It's a nice way to protect your conscience and it'll stop you annoying others hopefully. Plus you can rewrite a story without people realising it.
I agree Taj - but the difference is, that on that group, its done by request....obviously, if its not asked for, its not done....
Personally, I'd love it if someone wanted to take one of my stories and rewrite it. Could be loads of fun.
The mere fact that they were interested enough to want to do it would be quite flattering in itself...
Can I, rather appropriately, hijack this thread? Which famous literary work would any of you lot like to reconstruct?
The Story of O
King Lear. I'd like to give Cordelia a slap.
taj .. please stop hijacking threads it is not in your job description ... and get back to the Elf and Unicorn at once ... there is trouble ...
Right away Mi'Lady. Shall I top up the Rolls on the way?
othello. he is much too earnest for one so gullible. i'd make him like mr bean
*othello taps chin pensively, then puts finger in air, runs stage left, runs stage right, exits stage left* etc
errrrr .. no i haven't ... (answer to original q.)
as IFB said.
