Resonant as all get out for me: I think it captures the time perfectly; it's the detail I think. But the pleasure of the unexpected also makes it stand out: for example
'we hunted by light and bitter'.

I'd like it to be poem of the week, but probably that's because it speaks so much to me.

Anyway, I really enjoyed it.

Ewan.

' Oh well, we can't all be "Poets'', Mr Pope!'
' And I thank your God for that, Mr Dryden.' (Well, it might have happened like that.)

I agree. I was one of the ones in the peasant skirts, and it rings so true. I also loved the line about hunting by light and bitter.
Scansion Schmansion :-)
I do like it and it is fun - but I'm afraid that the Wilky boy is right - it isn't a very good poem - yet. Maybe we should have a nostalgia comp?
Hmmm...not being a poet I can't comment on the technical side, but if it tugs the nostalgia centres of at least two readers, doesn't that make it just a bit good? Like Noel Coward said, never underestimate the power of cheap music or, in this case, 'not very good' poetry. Let's have a nostalgia comp. Though would it be fair? Some of us have a lot more nostalgia to draw on than others... I liked Wilky's other poem as well.
